International Academic Forum on Cinematic Arts — Cooperation and Innovation: A New Pattern of International Film and TV Education Held
  The International Academic Forum on Cinematic Arts — Cooperation and Innovation: A New Pattern of International Film and TV Education of the Beijing International Film Festival • 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival took place at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center on the morning of August 28.
  Present were Li Xiaobing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival • 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival; Li Xiaoming, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Beijing Radio & Television Station and Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival; Huang Huilin, senior professor at BNU, President of the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture, BNU and founder of the Beijing College Student Film Festival; and Lu Chunyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Art and Communication, Beijing Normal University, Executive Vice Chairman of the Beijing International Film Festival • 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival.
  The forum invited academic leaders, experts and scholars from film and television colleges and universities like Hu Zhifeng, Zhou Xing, Yin Hong, Li Daoxin, Wang Yiwen and Zhang Zongwei and presidents of international film and television colleges and universities like Elizabeth M. Daley, Herman van Eyken and Duncan Petrie, to discuss the development direction and prospect of international film and television education with focus on the current status of international film and television education, subject construction, talent training and international cooperation, and offer opinions on cultivating new forces in the film industry. Yu Dan, a professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University; and Yang Chenghu, a professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University and President of the Recommendation Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival• 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival hosted the forum.
  According to Li Xiaobing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of BNU and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival • 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival, due to the impact of the pandemic and the broad development space brought about by the new era, new policies and new technologies, film and television education should target the country's major needs and the international academic frontier, enabling China to become a power house of film and television education.
  Li Xiaoming, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Beijing Radio & Television Station and Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival, believed that film and television education would cultivate a large number of high-quality professionals and a large tasteful audience for film power building.
  Lu Chunyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University and Executive Vice Chairman of Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival • 27th Beijing College Student Film Festival, emphasized that it is necessary to explore a path for film and television education with Chinese characteristics that conforms to the laws of education, adapts to the new situation, and meets new needs in the new context of globalization.
  The first session of the forum was themed with “International Film and Television Education and Subject Construction”. Huang Huilin, a senior professor at BNU, President of the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture, and founder of the Beijing College Student Film Festival, explained the two aspects of "knowledge" and "action" for the future development of film and television education in colleges and universities, emphasizing that a theoretical system with characteristics and rich practical activities are indispensable.
  Hu Zhifeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beijing Film Academy, analyzed the new environment and new challenges facing the development of Chinese drama and subjects related to film and television, gave suggestions on talent training, academic research, social services, and cultural inheritance, and proposed new directions which focus on humanity, science and innovation.
  Zhou Xing, a professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University and Director of the Steering Committee of Drama and Film & TV Professional Teaching of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, viewed the top priority given to education by the nation, the core comprehensive expansion of new education of liberal arts and the comprehensive coverage mechanism from subject, specialty to course as the point, line and plane of the education, respectively.
  Yin Hong, Director of the Steering Committee of Drama and Film & TV Professional Teaching of the Ministry of Education, a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University, and Dean at the Academy of Film of Macau University of Science and Technology, said that film and television education has to face the imbalance and homogeneity of supply and demand in talent training, and a reform in the context of new liberal arts is required.
  The second session of the forum focused on "International Film and Television Education and Talent Training". Elizabeth M. Daley, Dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, proposed that we should cultivate students' sense of artistic mission in interdisciplinary cooperation, and guide students to create and present new media forms.
  Li Daoxin, Vice Dean and a professor at the School of Arts, Peking University and a distinguished professor under the Cheung Kong Scholars Program, summarized the film teaching mode in the interdisciplinary context as "film + N four possibilities" and pointed out that quality, professionalism and academics should be developed at the same time for film talents cultivation.
  Herman van Eyken, Director of Griffith Film School, said that new technological revolution and 5G mobile technology have brought new possibilities. It is imperative to build a new narrative system and bridge the knowledge gap between the industry and fast-developing technologies.
  Wang Yiwen, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts and Communication, BNU, said that the growth of BNU's film and television education is closely connected with national development, as well as the needs of the society and the industry. The Beijing College Student Film Festival has substantially participated in and promoted the development of China's film industry, and will empower China's film and television education in greater international space.
  Duncan Petrie, Dean of the Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media, University of York, believed that the creative industry of film and television is undergoing transformation and rejuvenation. The film and television academies worldwide should attach great importance to equality, diversity, and inclusiveness within the industry and the society, in a joint effort to realize the ideal of education.
  Zhang Zongwei, Deputy Dean of the School of Theater, Film and Television, Communication University of China introduced China's higher film and television education in the context of "Double First-Class" and "Internet +", saying colleges and universities should take new measures to transform and upgrade themselves to promote the development of China's higher film and television education in the new era.
  Various thoughts and ideas at home and abroad pave the way for the development of film and television education. The guests believed that the ever-changing era will bring a brighter future to the film and television industry. Film and television educators should seize opportunities, face challenges, and educate and cultivate a host of excellent film and television talents that are in line with international standards. In this way, educators can also become an important force to promote changes.
