The well-known photographer Cao Yu and the well-known actress Yao Chen jointly serve as the producers.Umbilical Cord (also known as Roaming in the Blue Grassland), an ethnic minority film, written and directed by the young director Qiao Sixue officially began to shoot on April 16 in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia. The film tells the story of a nomadic electronic musician called as “Arus” who quits his job in a city and accompanies his mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease to return to life on the prairie.
Using The prairie as a bond, the film Umbilical Cord reflects the yearning and pursuit of the people on the prairie, and stands out from many film projects due to its unique humanistic qualities. It won “Special Award” for Project Pitches of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival, and the title of“Judging Panel’s Recommended Project” and “Winning Project of ‘Good Chinese Story’” at the Project Pitch Conference of the 22nd China Golden Rooster Awards , and was called as a “work that wanders in beauty and purity” by Judging Panel of Project Pitches of Beijing International Film Festival.
Cao Yu, who has served as the director of photography for blockbuster films such as The Eight Hundred and Legend of the Demon Cat and has won many awards at domestic and international film festivals, serves as a producer for the first time. Following the word-of-mouth work Send Me to the Clouds,the actress Yao Chen once again serves as a producer with the young director Qiao Sixue. Qiao Sixue who graduated from the 3IS Paris Campus has written many feature film scripts. This film is her first film as a director.
The film gathers outstanding filmmakers in front of and behind the scenes, providing multiple guarantees for film quality. Actress Badema, who won the Golden Rooster Award for Best Actress, plays the part of "Mother". National electronic music singer Idel plays “Arus”. Lyu Songye, who has been nominated for many international film festival photography awards, serves as the director of photography for this film. Zhao Ziran (masterpieces Eight Hundred and Chongqing Hot Pot) serves as the art director of the film. Fu Kang (masterpieces Cloud in the Wind, Blind Massage and Red Amnesia) serves as the sound director of the film. Li Zhou, an expert from the Makeup Professional Committee of the China Film Art Direction Academy (masterpieces Eight Hundred and The Sacrifice), joins in as the styling director of the film. Wang Shuili (masterpieces Eight Hundred, The Sacrifice and Mojin - The Lost Legend serves as the prop designer for this film.
