'Samsung Cellphone Short Film Unit' is open for registration
In order to encourage young filmmakers to make free and diverse video creation and explore new shooting methods to expand the film innovation space, the 11th Beijing International Film Festival worked with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series of 5G mobile phones to create a Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit and now solicits works in the whole country. Filmmakers for the Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit may sign up for the professional group and submit their works to the official email galaxyS21@bjiff.com.
As mobile phone shooting has become a daily practice, film art develops new concepts. The Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit aims to mobilize young Chinese filmmakers to develop into the diverse and rich video art creation ecology through a more freestyle shooting with Samsung mobile phones.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series of 5G phones explore the boundaries of technology and art
Samsung Mobile is committed to exploring new video and imaging technologies and has been refreshing people's understanding of mobile video and photography technology. With the Samsung Galaxy S21 series of 5G mobile phones, the camera design of mobile phones has been reformed. The innovative director's perspective function will allow filmmakers to switch between multiple cameras for shooting. In addition, with AI-based imaging technology, works can be rendered in perfect image quality without post-production.
Samsung brings mobile phones film-standard videos and images with technology to boost the development of short films in China. This fits well with the Beijing International Film Festival's long-term concern of video technology. Through this event, the Beijing International Film Festival and Samsung Galaxy S21 series of 5G mobile phones will provide a display platform for young Chinese filmmakers and facilitate the diversification of video art.
Notes for Application for the Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit
The solicitation will be launched on May 28 by the Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit for the 11th Beijing International Film Festival. All films submitted must be shot with a Samsung mobile phone. Story/documentary short films are acceptable, but they must be original works. No plagiarism and infringing content are allowed. Commercial film and television or film trailers are not acceptable.
The duration of the film submitted shall not be shorter than 5 minutes and it shall be completed before July 15, 2021. The film submitted shall be shot in the largest size of the mobile phone to improve the resolution of the video, i.e. the video resolution shall be at least 1,080P (1,920* 1,080). Any film shot with a mobile device other than Samsung mobie phones or shot with professional cameras shall not be submitted. No cartoon works made through freehand sketching/digital means that involve no shooting will be accepted.
For the Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit, evaluation and judgement will be made by the panel of judges consisting of senior producers, directors and screenwriters from the film industry. 5 awards will be issued after the evaluation, i.e. awards for the best director, the best screenwriter, the best cameraman, the best editor and the biggest future shock. The evaluation results will be announced in the Beijing International Film Festival · Samsung Mobile Phone Short Film Unit Forum and displayed in the APP Hivideo.
*Participants must keep the original documents of their works. Videos that cannot be verified for their source and the shooting equipment will be disqualified for the event.
