A Guide of Project Pitches Training, Trainees Recruitment in Progress
The recruitment of trainees for the first Project Pitches Training of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is in full swing, and the application time will end at 24:00 on February 18, 2021. The Chinese short film training with selected themes is planned to last for two and a half months. And the first-line mentor will lead the trainees to immerse themselves in the core links of film production, and experience text creation, field shooting, standardized post-production and film premiere. Here, the Guide is prepared for anyone who wants to know details of the Training.

Q: Why does the BJIFF organize the Training? What is the value and significance?
A: The Project Pitches Training is designated to discover and incubate potential newcomers in the industry with creative talent and production execution ability. Through complete short film production training, it helps young directors deeply understand the practical application and industry standards of film technology while pursuing the artistic value of film.

It is committed to establishing a market-oriented support system with the attribute of public vocational education in the transition process from college education to career development. With the support of the outstanding creation and production mentors who perpetually work at the front line of the market, we can provide strong production ability, create an enhanced channel for talents to enter the market, and broaden trainees’ professional vision.

Q: What is the core mechanism of the Training?
A: Young trainees + training mentor + jury composed of senior film producers + front-line production mentor advisory group

Team of senior producer & young director
A jury composed of senior filmmakers who are engaged in the incubation of young filmmakers and project production for a long time will select qualified trainees to enter the actual training based on their personal development experiences and previous works.

Each senior producer will team up with one trainee to establish an independent short film group, focusing all their energy on the creation of a short film to help students further understand film production.

Training mentor + front-line production mentor advisory group + independent short film group

Each Project Pitches Training will invite an outstanding film director or producer who is active in the front line of the market to serve as the training mentor and work as the short film producer. The training mentor and the first-line production mentor advisory group (photography directors, art directors, editing directors, etc.) will personally guide the production of each short film group. The Training will feature open and free creative environment, rule-based guidelines, and immersive full-process short film production.

Q: What important resources will the BJIFF provide for the Training?
A: The top domestic companies for film pre- and post-production will provide all-round support, including one-stop equipment service, closed post-production management, professional actor brokerage resources and film blooper publicity, and multi-form supporting shooting venues. Professional film resources will be available for young directors' short film creation. We expect more partners in the industry to cooperate with us and join the support system of the Training to enable young directors.

Q: How to display the outcomes of the Training?
A: The works with the same theme completed during the Training will be screened together in a collective long film at the 11th BJIFF’s world premiere and industry screening. Outstanding short films may participate in film festivals at home and abroad in the form of independent films for award competition and exchanges.

Q: What is the difference between the Project Pitches and the Training?
A: The Project Pitches provides a platform of financing and negotiation for new films of young filmmakers, which is an important project delivery section in the Beijing Film Market. However, behind the integration of the project and the market, stronger talents are necessary to support the rapid transformation of content. The Training focuses on talent support and incubation through short film practice, and promotes the integration of talents, projects and market resources together with the Project Pitches.

As time flies away, we remain true to our love for films. As the new year is coming, we are looking forward to further development. Participating in the Training is akin to stepping up on a train with a bag full of dreams for a future of films. At the moment, the train is waiting for you. Join us in 2021!
