They have different thoughts and understanding of Chinese language film genres from different perspectives, and they also put forward their thinking on different dimensions of genre films.

How to tell Chinese stories for the times and how to develop mainstream commercial films with Chinese characteristics of socialism are the common topics of filmmakers and film companies, as well as the highlight of the forum.
Based on the current new situation and new environment, the forum, with a focus on the development and commercialization of mainstream themes from the perspective of creation, had in-depth discussion on how to commercialize mainstream themes that can carry core values and how to make impressive Chinese stories with national significance. It provided a platform for filmmakers, who work hard to press ahead, to learn and have exchanges, delivering better Chinese stories with Chinese characteristics of socialism and enabling China to be a film power.

- Part 2: In-depth Discussion about Genre Trend -
Producer Wang Yu, serving as the moderator, invited four guests to have in-depth discussions about the genre trend of film. They were Mr. Stanley Tong, Chairman of China Film International Media Co. Ltd., screenwriter, producer and director, Mr. Shu Huan, screenwriter, director and Vice President of the Beijing Film Association, Ms. Yin Xiangjin, Senior Assistant to the President of Wanda Cultural Industry Group and General Manager of Wanda Film and Television Media Co., Ltd., presenter and producer, and Mr. Jiang Defu, Chief Executive and General Manager of Bona Production Co., Ltd. at Bona Film Group. In recent years, mainstream commercial films such as The Wandering Earth, Dying to Survive, Ne Zha and My People, My Country gained great success in domestic box office and even entered the international market. They are also widely acclaimed by the audience, which promote the creation of filmmakers, and enhance the international influence of Chinese films and Chinese people’s cultural confidence.
How to constantly produce mainstream commercial films demonstrating Chinese power, spirit and value with great emotion, attitude and profound theme? How to develop a film with both mainstream values and commercial factors? How to tell good Chinese stories through mainstream commercial films?

In 2020, with the substantial increase in the box office of Chinese films, the film genres will be more abundant. Facing new opportunities and challenges in the market, how will Chinese films develop in the new era? What are the difficulties faced by Chinese film genres? How could filmmakers find our way of film development? In addition, the development of the Internet has shortened the window period between cinemas and the Internet, bringing new challenges to the BJIFF in the future.
The above-mentioned questions were discussed by the guests at the second forum of the Chinese Film Industry Summit themed “Genre Trends of Chinese Films in the New Era”. From the perspective of film genres, guests reviewed the development of film genres in China, and searched for new inspirations for the development and creation of China’s films in various genres.

Over the past decade, China has become the world's largest film market, shaping a new pattern of the film industry. Chinese films are getting on healthy, active and sustainable track. In parallel, the BJIFF is constantly making progress and innovation, and contributing to improving the creative space of Chinese films and the charm of Chinese culture in films in a global context.
Let’s reach consensus, and join our hands to enable the BJIFF to tell good Chinese stories and contribute to China's transformation from a large film country into a film power. Stars shine on those walking in the night.
