Feng Xiaogang, Chinese Director, Screenwriter and Actor
Feng Xiaogang’s The Dream Factory ushered in the era of Chinese New Year blockbusters in mainland China with a box-office miracle of 36 million yuan, and won the Best Picture at the 21st Hundred Flowers Awards. From 2007 to 2009, his directorial work Assembly claimed awards at the Hundred Flowers Awards, Huabiao Film Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards. For this film, Feng Xiaogang himself also took home Best Director at the Hundred Flowers Awards and Golden Rooster Awards, as well as the Outstanding Director at the Huabiao Awards. Released in mainland China in 2012, Back to 1942 earned him another Huabiao Award for Outstanding Director, as well as Best Film From Mainland And Taiwan at the Hong Kong Film Awards and Best Feature Film at the Beijing International Film Festival Tiantan Awards. Internationally, his work has received the Golden Shell Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. His work also competed for Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards as mainland China’s submission.
