Travel Future with Light and Shadow—12th BJIFF—Game-Based Animated Films Section Successfully Concluded
Organized and guided by the 12th BJIFF Organizing Committee Office and the Publicity Department of Beijing Huairou District Committee of the Communist Party of China, hosted by the Beijing Huairou District Cultural Industry Development Promotion Center and Zhongxuan Cultural Media (Beijing) Co., Ltd., organized by Poly Digi-Entertainment, the 12th BJIFF—Game-Based Animated Films Section was successfully concluded on August 18, 2022.
Exciting events live up to expectations! Let’s review the feast of light and shadow on the cross-border integration of "Film + E-sports".
  / Three days of entertainment with surprise debut of E-sports Carnival /
E-sports Carnival was included in Game-Based Animated Films Section for the first time at the 12th BJIFF, hoping this event to enable people to engage in e-sports with a healthy, positive, and upward attitude, enjoy the pleasure brought by e-sports, and at the same time experience the pan-entertainment achievements through the integration of e-sports, film, and animation. Under the premise of strict implementation of the Covid-19 response policy, the 3-day event greatly improved the participation and sense of fulfillment of the public through wonderful on-site activities, and enrich the spiritual and cultural life of citizens.

The organizer set up an outdoor arcade hall equipped with a large number of claw machines, basketball arcade machines, arcade cabinets, VR flying machines, and other game & entertainment amenities, and even launched two competitions open to the public, the “Arcade Dabbler Competition” and the “Game for Peace Gabbler Competition”. In the “Arcade Dabbler Competition”, many items such as the KOF ’97, Street Fighter II, and Mario Kart 8 could directly take the players on a time machine to regain the memories of growing up and experience the joy and challenges brought by e-sports.

On the morning of August 17, the forum themed with "E-sports × Film and Television for New Future" was successfully held. Wang Linqun, Vice General Manager of Poly Pictures Investment Co., Ltd., Chen Di, Executive Deputy Director of People's E-sports, Lu Sida, General Manager of Marketing Center of Titan Sports Media Group, Yu Zehan, Head of Brand Center of Huya Live and other guests attended the forum and conducted multiple discussions on related topics such as "experience of e-sports cross-border and circle-breaking cooperation", "how Chinese e-sports & film and television IP boost dissemination of Chinese culture", "value of top e-sports events for sports & film and television cross-border".

On the afternoon of August 17, the forum themed “Rising of Chinese Animation: The Glorious Journey and Cultural Self-Confidence” was held as scheduled. Ma Hua, Professor of Animation School, Beijing Film Academy, served as the moderator and the participating guests included Chen Bo, Deputy Director of Shanghai Animation Film Studio, Yu Zhou, Co-founder of Light Chaser Animation, Cheng Haiming, producer and presenter of I Am What I Am, Gao Weihua, producer of Legend of Deification, Wang Shuang, creative producer, senior film planner, Song Lei, Director of R&D Department of China Animation Comic Game Group. All the guests in the industry gathered together to discuss the cultural confidence and development of Chinese animation.

  / Two events with cross-border integration for the feast of light and shadow /
On the morning of August 18, the "E-Sports Celebration for Filmmakers" was officially launched. The Film Company Game for Peace Challenge kicked off first. A number of well-known film and television companies and crews participated in the competition, such as Lexiang Culture, Poly Pictures, Sparkle Roll Media and Zhujiang Film & Media. After an exciting competition, the crew of Crackdown on Criminal Activity won the championship, Lexiang Culture won the runner-up, and Sparkle Roll Media won the third place.
On the afternoon of August 18, the Star Tournament kick off. The team made of multiple starts such as Yu Yan, Xia Zhiguang, Jia Yi, Gao Xuyang, Xu Ziyin, Xu Kaixin and Li Hechen participated in the “Game for Peace” with the regulation of star + streamer and star + player.

The interesting and vibrant competitions achieved the cross-border integration between the film and e-sports industries, which not only demonstrated the diverse charm of e-sports, but also brought new perspectives and ideas to industrial integration.

After the start tournament, it was the exciting moment of red carpet. Yu Wenwen, Aarif Rahman, Li Fei’er, Yuan Shanshan, Zhang Lunshuo, Xia Zhiguang, Yu Yan, Jia Yi, Mimi Lee, Xu Ziyin, Gao Xuyang, Xu Kaixin, Li Hechen and other actors, singers, representatives of film industry and crews walked on the red carpet one after another. All the guests showed up collectively with witty remarks in the interviews.

At the closing ceremony that night, Zhang Su, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau, delivered the speech first. He said that the Game-Based Animated Films Section catered to young target audiences, and made more experience the pan-entertainment ecology of film-game integration through current pop culture. Meanwhile, it also created a new model for promoting the connection and integration among the game, animation and film industries.

Then, the leaders and guests of the film industry presented honors to the participating teams, and launched the ceremony of "Together in the Light and Shadow".

The closing Cocktail Party of Game-Based Animated Films Section was sponsored by Luzhou Laojiao · National Cellar 1573, the official exclusive liquor brand of the 12th BJIFF. A grand palmprint ceremony was held at the reception, and the guests printed their palms one after another to make an appointment for light and shadow.

The Game-Based Animated Films Section has gradually opened up a new path for the integration of e-sports, games, animation and films from inauguration to prosperity. It was integrated with "Beijing E-sports 2022" hosted by the Beijing State-owned Cultural Assets Management Center for the first time this year to disseminate the spirit of competition and promote the integrated development of e-sports and related industries through a variety of activities.
In a merry and harmonious atmosphere, the 12th BJIFF Game-Based Animated Films Section was successfully concluded at the Flower Sea in Huairou! We are looking forward to the get-together again for the light and shadow next year.
