The forum was attended by: Li Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the 12th BJIFF, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Beijing Radio & Television Station, Xiao Xiangrong, Executive Vice Chairman of the BJIFF—29th Beijing College Student Film Festival and Dean of School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University, Young filmmakers including Wen Muye, Yao Tingting, Yu Xi, Li Gen and Story Chen, Yang Chenghu, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University, and professor, and Chen Gang, head of the Department of Film and Media, School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University and associate professor. The forum was moderated by senior program hostess Yao Miao.
Li Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the 12th BJIFF, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Beijing Radio & Television Station, pointed out in his speech that since its inception in 1993, the Beijing College Student Film Festival has been growing with the development of Chinese films, adhering to the tenet of "youth and passion, academic taste and cultural awareness". He also mentioned that in the process of developing China from a country with a huge number of films to a film power, the prosperity of Chinese film industry needs the continuous influx of "youth power"; To tell the story of China well, we need to gather the power of youth and convey the spirit of the time in a new way.

Xiao Xiangrong, Executive Vice Chairman of the BJIFF—29th Beijing College Student Film Festival and Dean of School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University, pointed out in the video address that since the beginning of the new century, China's modernization process has been accelerating, and the Beijing College Student Film Festival has always maintained a high level of attention to the current film industry. This forum focuses on the hot topics of the current Chinese film industry, shows the new creative perspective and youthful style of the new generation of young Chinese filmmakers, develops new ideas for artistic creation to reflect and embrace the era, and injects youthful vitality and infinite energy into the future and development of Chinese film in the exchange and discussion.

In the round-table discussion session of the forum, young film directors, screenwriters and young and middle-aged scholars actively discussed the theme of "Youthful Expression and the Spirit of the Times", showing the creative vitality and responsibility of young Chinese filmmakers in the new era, so as to promote the vigorous development of Chinese films in the new era.

Wen Muye, a young director, said that in the creation process of Dying to Survive and Nice View, the chief creative team conducted field research to find the temperament of the era in line with the characters, and tried to make the characters more impressive and vivid, so that the seeds of creation sprout and grow. However, in the creation process of realistic films, it is relatively difficult to find the right place for the film. Generally, there is a relationship between commercialization, film type and realistic themes. To find a balance in a limited space, we need to treat themes case by case.

Yao Tingting, the young director of Our New Life, fondly recalled the story of "youth expression" by mobilizing the feelings of child actors in the creation process, saying that the children actors would involve their very sincere feelings in the shooting. Yao Tingting mentioned that in the past two years, she has continued to broaden her creative boundaries and focus on the expression of social issues.

Young screenwriter Yu Xi shared his experience with the film 1921. He said that he had read a lot of literature with the rigor of academic research during the writing stage of the major historical film, as if he had completed a thesis in the way of film creation. During the creation of a film, the fictional plot should conform to the character's personality and historical environment. The so-called balance between history and imagination lies in the fact that the audience cannot see the traces of the creator's design after watching the film.
Young director Li Gen shared his creation experience of his first feature film Before Next Spring. In his opinion, imagination, life accumulation, artistic skills, personality and true feelings are indispensable elements in film creation. He hopes to be an honest man when he creates films in the future. As an audience, watch whatever you want; As a creator, express honestly and create whatever you want.

Story Chen, a young director, said that the experience of studying abroad has made her understand that in the context of the booming globalization in the new era, human emotions are common and the most fundamental needs of human beings are also common. She hopes she can make works that follow the pace of the era and reflect the spirit of the era, and make sincere creation and expression. She also hopes that in the future, China's new mainstream films will become mainstream in China, and the common expression of human emotions can be spread abroad and become the mainstream of the world.

Yang Chenghu, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University, and professor, pointed out that "new mainstream films" focus on and write about the real life that we feel today. China's new mainstream films in the new era focus on three aspects: Chinese stories, Chinese spirit, and the power of Chinese people to fight for a better life. The success of the new mainstream films today just means that Chinese films have finally found a development path paralleling with that of the world films.

Chen Gang, head of the Department of Film and Media, School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University and associate professor, believes that the more diverse sources of creative talent in recent years have brought a wealth of creative perspectives and aesthetic concepts to Chinese films. There are three obvious changes in the new generation of filmmakers: more and more young filmmakers have a conscious sense of genre; The selection of film themes is also more diverse, with special attention paid to social reality and people's lives; Young directors actively explore the iterative upgrading of film industrial production process and independent technological innovation, promote the deep integration of film culture, art and science and technology, and comprehensively enhance the originality of Chinese film.

The BJIFF—Beijing College Student Film Festival will continue to adhere to the purpose of "Passion, Academic Sense and Cultural Awareness", pay attention to the growth of young filmmakers, and advance with the new power of Chinese film.
