Project Pitches collection of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival was held from December 3, 2018 to March 3, 2019. A total of 735 projects from 10 countries and regions have been received. The influence of BJIFF Project Pitches in the Pan-Chinese region has become more and more prominent, and the number of participating projects has steadily increased year by year.

　　The unit of Work-in-process (WIP) project is initiated to help enhance financing and promotion.

　　There are 51 entries for the newly-added WIP unit this year. Among them, projects with a financing progress of more than 50% accounted for 55%, and 16% of the projects are close to completing all financing. In addition to providing opportunities for project financing, the Project Pitches platform of Beijing International Film Festival will increase the support for work-in-process projects display, promotion and negotiation, and strive to meet the actual cooperation needs of film production resources.

　　In this year’s WIP unit, there are rich varieties of project applications, with suspense & horror crimes and dramas taking the dominance, and the rest including swordplay, animation, science fiction & fantasy and so on. The overall qualities of the projects in production that have been collected this year are quite high, and the contents are colorful and worth looking forward to.

　　The number of Project Pitches has steadily increased, matching the new trend of market changes

　　The Project Pitches unit this year has received a total of 684 project applications. The projects are of various types, including drama, romance, suspense & thriller crime, and romance, etc. Compared with previous years, the project types are mainly concentrated on drama films and horror & suspense crime films. The proportion of projects such as sci-fi fantasy and action adventures has increased significantly.

　　In addition, the type of top three works has changed significantly from that of last year. The project collection this year has attracted the largest number of dramas, with 204 entries, accounting for about 30%. Then comes the type of suspense and horror crimes, with a total of 157 entries, accounting for about 23%. This type ranked top last year. Comedy has replaced romance into the top three, with 87 projects, accounting for 13%. Romance has contributed 80 projects, accounting for 12%. A total of 68 fantasy and sci-fi projects have been collected, accounting for about 10%. Action-based adventure projects have reached 50, accounting for 7%. Others, animation and costume swordplay have respectively seen 14, 13 and 11 entries. As the market continues to optimize in recent years, the types of participating projects have also revealed new trends in response to market changes, and the project categories are moving in a more uniform and perse direction.

　　At present, the initial review of Project Pitches is underway, and the review results will be announced at the end of March. The finalized 10 projects and 6 WIP projects will be on public roadshows at the Project Pitches of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival, competing for the venture capital project awards, WIP unit awards, market attention awards and International Promotion Awards. The Project Pitches platform will adhere to the principle of fair and impartial evaluation, select truly outstanding works, and provide the best opportunities and resources for young filmmakers in the spirit of incubating works and supporting talents.
