Lineup of Preliminary Appraisal Jury|Preliminary Shortlist of Beijing Film Market Project Pitches

  Officially starting on December 3rd, 2018, the Beijing Film Market Project Pitches of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) has unveiled the shortlist of 30 projects and 10 WIP projects after nearly 4-month preliminary appraisal, which shall go into the review process.

  These 30 projects and 10 WIP projects on the shortlist have stood brilliantly out of 735 applicants. The 30 shortlisted projects are: Unusual Mother and Daughter, World of Tales, Ash of Time, Varyag, Beauty and Beast, The Beautiful Tale of a Utopia, Black Sheep, Papa,Papa, Original, Myna Bird, Stolen Mother, Volunteer, Angel,Demon & Victims, Moon in the Daylight, Only Our Secret, The Uncrowned King, There’s a concert in town, Genius Screenwriter, From North, Kuta Adventures, Name/Off, The Wheel Man, Evil is No Longer Teenager, Legend of Fire Fox, Cliff, QUACK QUACK, The South Island Team, Till I Find You Again, Planet Cat, First Love Begins at Forty, Reflector.

  10 WIP projects are: Jing-Ju Cats: Tales of Heroes, Summer Arousal, Fragrance, Everything That Rises, Wild Dog, Harden Love, As Spring Wind Blowing Over The City Plaza, Rebuilding, Love Poem, Damp Season (in random order).

  Holding on to the appraisal mechanism of openness and justification, the Beijing Film Market Project Pitches of BJIFF aim to ceaselessly excavate and support excellent Chinese genre films with market potentials, and strive to forge a professional project pitches platform with international visions, so as to transfer fresh blood to China’s film industry. For this year’s Project Pitches, the Preliminary Appraisal Jury has comprehensively taken such factors as creativity, expression, genre and storyline into consideration, so as to encourage the creative original screenplays, especially those few promising genre films in the market. In view of the 30 projects and 10 WIP projects on the shortlist, they are more pluralistic in genre, more abundant in subjects and rich in perspectives. The Jury strictly appraised the professionalism and completeness of screenplay and the completion and expressiveness of WIP project, in a bid to dig out excellent film projects boasting investment value and market possibilities. 

  The Preliminary Appraisal Jury for Beijing Film Market Project Pitches in this year consists of six professionals in the film industry. They are respectively: Zhang Yishi, Director of iQIYI Film Assessment Service Center, Huang Pingmao, Editor-in-Chief of Tencent Video & Film Content Operation Center, Li Haihua, Producer of Alibaba Picutres, Xu Zhiyong, Vice General Manager of Video Production of Bona Film Group, Ye Ting, Producer of Beijing Zhenledao Media, and Chen Yun, Producer of Linmon Pictures (in random order).

  After stressful 4-month preliminary appraisal, the Preliminary Appraisal Jury submitted the most professional comments, and was touched by the persistence and enthusiasm of young filmmakers. By upholding the faith in never overlooking a good story, the Jury is committed to caring for creativities and arguing for pioneer expression, and ultimately shortlists the 40 most promising projects, so as to further enrich the context of China’s film industry.

  The shortlisted 30 projects and 10 WIP projects will go into the review and interview processes, to challenge a new round of appraisal and selection. 20 projects and 6 WIP projects will be picked out in the review process. Finally, 10 projects and 6 WIP projects will be developed under the supervision of professional mentors, and will be on the final review roadshow of Beijing Film Market Project Pitches of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival, competing for the Project Pitches awards, WIP awards, market attention awards and International Promotion Awards.
