Introduction to Second-round Selection Jury

Following on the selection mechanism based on the principle of openness and fairness, the second-round selection of the 9th BJIFF Beijing Film Market Project Pitches seeks to constantly tap into and support outstanding Chinese-language films and young filmmakers for the Chinese film market.
The three judges have carefully reviewed and scored the scripts of 30 pitching projects and 10 WIP projects. During the interview for the second-round selection on April 7-8th, 2019, they selected 26 outstanding Chinese-language film projects with both commercial and artistic merits as finalists for the Project Pitches by taking into account creative types, screenwriting, practical possibility, team professionalism and other dimensions.
In the interview, the three judges carefully listened to the elaboration on their creations from 40 project participants. Putting themselves in the shoes of each project, they provided careful guidance by providing valuable comments on screenwriting and future implementation of the pitching projects and giving input on post-production and film promotion and distribution of the WIP projects. All this benefitted the project participants a lot. They were suddenly enlightened in face of open issues, and it’s all a rewarding trip, no matter whether their projects are nominated for the final-round selection or not, said project participants who expressed sincere gratitude to the judges for their hard-hitting professional advice in an interview after project interviews.
The top 10 shortlisted pitching projects and the top 6 shortlisted WIP projects will receive professional training and guidance from two seasoned senior instructors on April 14th, and will all be present at the scene of the Final-round Selection Roadshow of the BJIFF Beijing Film Market Project Pitches on April 16th, competing for four high-profile awards for pitching projects as well as two awards and the “Most Market Focus Award” for the WIP projects. In addition, the winners will be offered the opportunity to win the “International Promotion Award” and study and exchange abroad.
The registration for the 9th Beijing Film Market Project Pitches will be open on April 13th. The official website of the BJIFF Beijing Film Market is available for “Beijing Film Market” registered guests/buyers to make an appointment for project negotiations (Due to system upgrading, the appointment for project negotiations made via a mobile phone will not be accepted and invalid).
Over the years, the BJIFF Beijing Film Market Project Pitches has been committed to creating a Chinese-language film venture platform with international vision. Also, it has spared no effort to encourage and support talented young filmmakers with dreams, breathing new life into the Chinese-language film community.
