On the Star-studded Night, Dreams Set Sail

  On the evening of April 17th, the 9th Beijing International Film Festival–Beijing Film Market Project Pitches Awarding Reception was held in Ballroom, Beijing International Hotel packed with distinguished guests. Together, people involved in this year’s Project Pitches lasting four months came to the cocktail party to witness the brilliant achievements of Project Pitches at the 9th BJIFF Beijing Film Market.

  After going through several rounds of selection, training and final road show, The Cat Called Schrodinger won the Special Award and received the cash prize of 60,000 yuan granted by CMC Inc. and Gravity Pictures Investment Co, Ltd. Special Mother and Daughter garnered the Best Original Script Award, along with a RMB 50,000 cash prize given out by Arcat Film Art Center. Myna Bird was awarded the Projects with Greatest Commercial Potential, together with a cash prize of 50,000 yuan from Jiazhuo (Beijing) Culture Media Co., Ltd. and Dong Lang Film Creative Industry Park. Guack! Team Nandao was honored with the Best Creativity Award as well as a RMB 50,000 cash prize from the Golden Week of Chinese-language Film Screenwriters. All the four award winners also received the Concept Design Special Effects Service prize worth 250,000 yuan provided by Phenom Films.

  The Special Award winner The Cat Called Schrodinger also won the Most Market Focus Award, a new addition to this year’s Project Pitches, and was awarded a film post-production service for editing and special effects worth 800,000 yuan by Shanghai Jungu Culture Communication Co., Ltd. The Most Market Focus Award was voted, after an overall rating on multiple dimensions such as film production, market enforceability, and commercial potential, by the Marketing Decision Group consisting of representatives from 20 domestic leading film and television production companies, promotion and distribution companies, and performing arts firms from the perspective of industry.

  What’s more, Special Mother and Daughter also won the MPA Award and The Fairy Tale World received the MPA Special Award for Asia Pacific Cooperation. The MPA Award winner, together with the winners selected from the MPA Workshop at major international film festivals in Asia Pacific, will study in Hollywood’s major film companies, participate in film screening activities held in Los Angeles, and get the opportunity to pitch their projects to international production companies in early November 2019. The winner of the MPA Special Award for Asia Pacific Cooperation will head for Australia to participate in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and a series of film exchange activities in early December, and will be offered the opportunity to pitch their film projects in the China-Australia Co-production Film Forum.

  To broaden the international vision of Chinese young filmmakers, the Organizing Committee of the BJIFF will send two projects to study and make exchanges at Cannes Film Festival each year through sponsorship. This year’s Oversea Promotion Prize went to The Cat Called Schrodinger and The Traces.

  At this year’s Project Pitches, the Outstanding Pitching Project Award went to Visitors to the Northern World of Ice, The Traces and others, and the Outstanding WIP Project Award to Fragrance, Rebuilding, etc.

  Today, we harvest the fruits we want in the end after four months of journey. Never forget why we started, and we can accomplish our mission. On April 18th and 19th, all the top 20 pitching projects and the top 6 WIP projects that have been shortlisted for the final-round selection will move to the stage of project negotiation.
