2020 is a year full of challenges. And young filmmakers who are engaged in “dream building” have experienced confusion and growth. The Project Pitches of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) has accompanied many projects from stories to images, witnessing their dreams come true in cinemas. During this special period of this year, we are deeply moved by the positive attitude and tenacity of young filmmakers. In the face of difficulties, they still insist on creation and hard-working, constantly improving themselves and making innovation. This year, the outstanding creators discovered by Project Pitches of the BJIFF have seen their works released in movie theaters or online, or won awards and honors at the BJIFF.

Their spirit to pursue dreams dauntlessly also encourages Project Pitches of the BJIFF to become a better "Project Pitches Transaction Platform" year after year, enabling "dreamers" to achieve their film dreams. The 10th BJIFF highlighted its online feature through online and offline integration to empower the recovery of the film industry and push film talents to enter the market. The Project Pitches successfully completed various activities such as project selection, professional training, road show promotion, cooperation and negotiation. It gave encouragement and support in different aspects such as fund, technology, service and international promotion to more than 10 projects such as Wander through the HUIS, Knock Knock and No Problem with Thought.

In 2021, there are also changes and uncertainties, which bring about both challenges and opportunities for the progress and upgrading of the film industry. During intensive competition, excellent projects and talents will eventually stand out. The Project Pitches of the BJIFF will continue to give support and reward to young and talented creators who are enthusiastic about films, and jointly create high-quality Chinese film projects so as to deliver new power to the film industry.

 

Turn stories into films!

The Project Pitches of the 11th BJIFF now starts to receive online application. The deadline for application is March 1, 2021 (the deadline for the submission of supplementary materials for WIP is March 8, 2021 Beijing time). The specific application requirements are as follows:

For Project Pitches:

1. Scope of project solicitation: Chinese film production project;

2. For feature film with a complete script for shooting, a 5,000-word synopsis of the story and a complete script are required;

3. The film has not yet started shooting and has not completed all financing activities;

4. Projects that have not participated in other film markets or project pitches activities will be given priority;

5. Film projects need to have the potential to be released in China with commercial or artistic value.

For WIP:

1. Scope of project solicitation: Chinese film production project;

2. The film feature film has been approved for the record and obtained a film production license;

3. For feature film with a complete script for shooting, a 5,000-word synopsis of the story and a complete script are required;

4. Film that is under shooting and not officially completed, or in the post-production, still needs to raise funds or get promotion and distribution resources.

5. The project has director, producer and production company, with a shooting start time not later than February 28, 2021;

6. It has a complete production budget and shooting plan, with a complete project plan;

7. A 10-minute trailer is required (with online viewing link and password);

8. An overview of the development phase of the project (within 200 words) is required;

9. Film projects need to have the potential to be released in China with commercial or artistic value.
