Preliminary Evaluation of 19th Beijing International Sports Film Week Concludes: Promoting International Appeal of Sports Films
The preliminary evaluation of the 19th Beijing International Sports Film Week (BISFW) was successfully completed on August 3, 2023. This edition of BISFW featured eight categories: Olympic Games and Olympic Spirit, Documentary, Feature Film, Sports and Society/Sports and Disabled Persons, TV Programs and New Media, Winter Sports, Short Film, and Student Works. A total of 222 entries were received for consideration. The preliminary evaluation was carried out by a panel of experienced sports and film professionals, among others. After expert selection, 46 works that showcase the charm of sports and the spirit of athletes from different perspectives have advanced to the final-round selection.

It is reported that the 19th BISFW has seen active participation from the media outlets such as China Media Group, Xinhua News Agency, Beijing Radio & Television Station, and Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV. Some new media platforms have also selected high-quality works to participate in this year's submission activity, which not only enhances the social influence of the BISFW but also expands its collection channels. The outstanding works selected after the final-round selection will be showcased at the Release of Excellent Works for the Beijing International Sports Film Week event in early September. Some outstanding works will also be sent by the BISFW to race for the Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST-World Championship Final.
The 19th Beijing International Sports Film Week, themed "Double Olympic Dreams in Images", was hosted by the BJIFF Organizing Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA), and organized by the Committee on Information of the COC and the Beijing Olympic City Development Center. It’s an important dual Olympic legacy brand project launched in 2005. The Sports Film Week has been a part of the Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST-World Championship Final co-hosted by the FICTS and IOC since 2009. Among the 2022 collection of works, Breaking Through, Light on Yoga, Cheer Up, A Date with Snow and Ice and The Wonder of Dance were nominated for the 40th Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST-World Championship Final. In particular, A Date with Snow and Ice and The Wonder of Dance won the Mention d'Honneur.

1. Shi Xuping
Senior editor at CCTV; senior director and producer for sports documentary programs World Sports Report and Sports; host of interview programs Sports Salon and Sports Talk Show; multiple award-winning sports documentaries produced independently or as a key creative personnel, both domestically and internationally.
2. Shan Wanli
Researcher at the China Film Art Research Center. His main research interests: French cinema, documentary films, and sports films. His main research achievements: chief editor of Documentary Film Literature, Analysis of Documentary Films, and History of Chinese Documentary Films; author and translator of hundreds of film articles; co-editor of dozens of film books and journals; co-editor of Library of Film Studies.
 
3. Yu Baimei
Director, screenwriter, and producer, known for directing the films Ping Pong: The Triumph, Looking Up, and My People, My Homeland.
In 2014, the film The Breakup Guru, which he wrote and directed, was released. In 2015, the film Devil and Angel, which he wrote and directed, was released. In 2017, the film Wolf Warrior 2, which he produced, was released. In 2019, the film Looking Up, which he directed and wrote, was released. In 2020, the film My People, My Homeland, in which he participated as a writer and director, was released. In 2021, the film My Country, My Parents, which he participated as a writer, was released. In 2022, the film Ping Pong: The Triumph, which he wrote and directed, was released. In 2023, the film The Meg II, in which he participated as a screenwriter, was released.
4. He Xinghui
Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Beijing Sport University, with a Ph.D. degree. She also serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Sports Film and Television Professional Committee of Chinese Collegial Association. Her research interests include Olympic visual culture communication and sports documentary theory and practice. Several of her academic works, including Official Olympic Film History, A Comprehensive Study of Classic Sports Documentaries, and Visual Media, Olympic Ceremonies, and Cultural Identity, have been published. She contributed to research reports such as Research Report on the Development of Chinese Documentaries and Research on Documentary Filmmaking in the New Era. She presented over 40 papers in core journals and important academic conferences both domestically and internationally.
 
5. Sun Jishun
Producer, presenter, and head of ChangeFilm Co., Ltd., as well as Founder of Change Film and ChangeFilm Co., Ltd. He worked at The Beijing News, Sohu, Phoenix TV, and Tangren Media; invested in and produced films such as On Your Mark, The Stray Cat King at the Sports Stadium, The Stray Cat King at the Ski Resort, and Romantic Detective; directed and wrote works such as You in the Red Mansion, Me in the Journey to the West and My Airhostess Roommate; and published novels including Praise and Encounter with Albatross.
