Winners will be Announced at the 13th BJIFF Samsung Mobile Short Film Forum to be Held Soon
The 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) Samsung Mobile Short Film Forum will be held on April 27, during which five awards, such as Best Director and Best Screenplay will be announced. Featuring the theme of “Splendor to be Discovered”, the forum will discuss way forward for mobile short filmmaking.
This year, with the theme of “Splendor to be Discovered”, the Samsung Mobile Short Film Unit encourages young directors to create works freely by means of phone filming, and explore the new realm of phone filming using the Samsung Galaxy S23 models with ultimately premium filming quality. The Organizing Committee made meticulous selection, and identified 8 outstanding young directors to be part of the Unit. They submitted their screenplays for approval by the Organizing Committee, and started location scouting from March 20 on. After two rounds of production and fine-tuning, they submitted their final works for review and selection. Covering a wide range of genres, such as sci-fi, suspense, romance and healing narration, the 8 short films narrate vivid and heart-warming stories in the sci-fi aerospace, cyberpunk, modern city and small town in the south of the Yangtze River through cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S23 models. Young directors express their feelings about the era and life via freer mobile filmmaking, and bring to us a creative journey full of imagination and warmth. Three jury members have finished review of the short films recently.
At the 13th BJIFF Samsung Mobile Short Film Forum, three jury members, namely producer Zhu Huilong, director Peng Fei and screenwriter/producer Lin Mingjie will appear as panelists, and exchange their ideas about mobile filmmaking and innovation in mobile filming technology with the curator of the Unit, Ma Heliang. They will also talk about how young directors make films with mobile phones, and elaborate on the theme of “Splendor to be Discovered” based on the films shortlisted for the Unit and their filming process. After the roundtable session, the three jury members and curator will present awards and offer professional comments about the creative ideas and filming technology behind each winning film.
