On April 18, the International Academic Seminar on Jacques Perrin Nature Documentary was extremely popular.Zhang Tongdao, director of documentary department at Peking University,Chen Xiaoqing, director of Chinese food documentary A Bite Of China,Chen Dali, the committee director of documentary film unit, Lu Di, professor at Peking University, Hu Zhifeng, professor at Beijing Normal University and other insiders all came to the seminar to express their love for Jacques Perrin.

Zhang Tongdao said that Jacques Perrin’s films inspired them a lot. Zhang remembered a story of Perrin. Once Perrin was traveling in New Zealand with his family. Perrin saw a snow goose that he used to take pictures and videos of. At that moment, Perrin and the goose looked at each other in their eyes, which is precious to Perrin. Chen Xiaoqing said that Perrin taught people that being curious and interested is the truth motivation of art.

Jacques Perrin used to play a small role in Gates of the Night by Marcel Carné when he was 6 years old. Perrin left school at the age of 14 and entered film industry since then. He transferred to make documentary films after spending 10 years in making political films. Jacques said that documentary films opened the door for him to know how to deal the relationship with human and with nature. He suggested that people go out of school to get closer to the nature. "You know nothing about animals in the zoo or the museum. You should go to where they live, the nature. Scientists care nothing about if a bird is tired, my team do. An animal without freedom is not an animal, so are human." Perrin said.

Talking about the difference between feature films and documentary films, Jacques Perrin said that directors have decided how to make the film before they started, but documentary is more freestyle because it expresses about life. "You hardly realize what you will have before shooting. Most things are unpredictable and we can only catch the most natural status of animals through the camera. For me, making documentary films are more creative."Perrin said.

Sufficient Chinese Elements for DocumentaryJacques Perrin came to the Beijing International Film Festival for the first time. However, he came with a clear

purpose:to make a dream come true, which is making a documentary film about China.

Jacques Perrin said that documentary is a common way to know about lives on the planet, not only human, but also other creatures who share the same living environment with human.Jacques Perrin had many experience in making documentary films. Now he thinks it is time for him to make a film about China.

Perrin said that the film will not only be a documentary, but more like a fairytale about a boy who followed migrant

birds and found the mountains, rivers and histories, legends and other great things about China. It is the legendary story of a boy. Jacques Perrin said that the film is under preparation."We already have the sceneries and histories of 32 provinces of China. We even found economic documents before a century. Though making a documentary film is based on technology, it costs more to collect all the resources so I need time to prepare the funds." Perrin said. He believes it will be a breath- taking film because China has so much to present.

  Co-existence is a Must

Jacques Perrin likes making documentary films because it witnesses life nd the beautiful moments of nature. "I asked the photographer who worked in Le peuple migrateur what it was like to fly with the birds. He couldn't say anything but cried. This is original feeling nature brings to human." Jacques Perrin remembered.

Jacques Perrin always said that human cannot live on the planet alone."No species is more important than others. The nature needs diversification. It is not about if we like animals or not, it is necessary that all creatures exist. If animals extinct, humans will be punished."Perrin said.

Jacques Perrin said that making documentary films has changed his lifestyle."I spend a lot of time with animals every year. I adapt myself to their way of living. After my first documentary, I found the world has changed. It is about

the way humans communicate with animals and nature. We have to learn from animals. Birds fly for thousands of miles through the storm without being proud. Humans are not." Perrin said.

Jacques Perrin feels sad that humans are killing the nature in a chemical way. "People have not realized that they are killing the beautiful planet. I hope that everyone can realize that human cannot live on the planet alone. For me,making a film about oceans or creatures does not aim to present the beautiful fish or birds. I want people to think about what we can do to keep the beauty."Jacques said.
