Call for Posters of the 8th Beijing International Film Festival to be officially Launched

The Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) will officially launch a call for posters of the 8th BJIFF on October 3, 2017. The call for high-quality poster entries is open to the public and specialized agencies, 6 out of which will be shortlisted after two rounds of selection, and each of the winning individuals or organizations will be presented by the Organizing Committee of the BJIFF with a prize and a certificate of honor.

The 8th BJIFF will take place in Beijing in April, 2018. Since its inception in 2011, the BJIFF has seen seven successful editions, attracting more than 10,000 guests from various quarters and tens of millions of people to attend. The event builds a platform to boost the development of the Chinese film cause and industry and promote exchanges and transactions between the Chinese and international film industries.

As a window of the BJIFF to the outside world, posters of the film festival have been an important means of publicity all the time. The first prize entry will be offered an opportunity to be launched as the main poster of the 8th BJIFF and appear in each venue of the festival. Poster design works need to highlight the core element of the festival–its LOGO, a classic design element of a windmill comprising seven-color blades with rich and diverse implications. Since its launch in 2011, the LOGO has been widely used in various design works of the BJIFF for promotion. The entirety of the seven blades constituting the windmill represents film, also called the Seventh Art, and expresses that film is the epitome of the combination of architecture, music, painting, sculpture, poetry and dance. The moral of the dynamic windmill is that film creates a wide range of images in time and space of motion. The seven colors of the blades originated from the rainbow, symbolizing the richness of the film culture and the artistic presumption and verisimilitude of the film itself.

Another key element of the BJIFF is the trophy of “Tiantan Award”, which can also be used as the reference of poster design concepts. Stemmed from the value idea of “Beauty in Variety, Harmony in Diversity”, it is at the heart of the trophy design of the Competition Section of the festival, comprehensively reflecting the purport of “Share the Screen, Shape the Future” for the BJIFF. The trophy is 45 centimeters high in its entirety, consisting of a 9cm high base and a 36cm high cup. Specifically, both of the said figures of the composition are the multiple of “9” that signifies the top distinction of Tiantan Award and is a homophone for “everlasting” in Chinese, a connotation that people advocate good luck.
