  Good evening!

  Tonight, we get together in Beijing to celebrate the opening of the 7th Beijing International Film Festival(BJIFF). On behalf of the State Administration of Press,Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People'sRepublic of China and the Organizing Committee of BJIFF, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the president and members of Tiantan Award Jury, to film artists, filmmakers and representatives of film institu- tions from all over the world! Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all guests and friends present tonight for your great support to the BJIFF and the development of Chi- nese film industry over the years.

  Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Com-rade Xi Jinping as its core has been paying high atten-tion to literature and art. In his important speeches de-livered at the CPC’s forum on literature and art work as

  well as the 10th Congress of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) & the 9th Congress of the China Writers Association (CWA), General Secre- tary Xi Jinping made important instructions on film un-dertaking for several times, pointing out the direction and the fundamental path for the Chinese film commu-nity to follow. It has injected great vitality into the film in-dustry and boosted more fine works. This March, Film Industry Promotion Law of the People's Republic of Chi-

  na has entered into effect, providing even stronger support for the scientific and modernized developmenthe film industry.

  Since its outset in 2011, Beijing International Fiestival has earnestly implemented the guidelines andolices for literature and art work, centered on the cul-ural development strategy of Beijing municipality, up-eld the mission of“Share the Screen, Shape the Fu-re”, and developed itself into an international film galaaturing internationalization, professionalization, inno-ation & high- end and marketization and a cultura ndmark of Beijing by exhibiting the charm of filmsthering the strength of films, training new filmmakers and invigorating the film culture. At this year’s BJIFF he“Tiantan Award”received a total of 424 submis-ons and the Organizing Committee selected nearly 00 films from 105 countries and regions for Beijing Filmanorama, which fully demonstrates the increasingly ong appeal and influence of the BJIFF.

In recen years, Chinese film industry has entered into a goldenera of prosperous development, witnessing increasingly strong creativity, active participation by various produc-tion companies and a vibrant market. In 2016, 772 fea-re films were produced across China, with box-officeevenue totaling RMB 49.2 billion and admission of.372 billion. The number of screens in urban areas ex-ceeded 43,000, ranking top in the world. Chinese filmindustry maintains a sound momentum in its active andholesome development. During the process of further accelerating the reform of China's film industry, we willch great importance to and strengthen exchangesnd cooperation between Chinese and internationalilms, striving to promote common prosperity of film in-ustries in both China and the world.
