The 4th International Jury of Tiantan Award Ning Hao

Ning Hao (1977-) is a famous Chinese film director, screenwriter and producer. He had showed his various artistic talents in his early career, worked respectively as band leader, stage designer, graphic designer, still photographer and video cameraman. He go on to study at the Arts Department of Beijing Normal University, and then graduated the Beijing Film Academy in the major of Still Photography in 2003. His student film Thursday, Wednesday(2001) earned him the Best Director award at the Beijing College Student Film Festival.

　　His first feature film Incense (2003) premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. It won the Grand Prize of the Tokyo Filmex Festival and the Golden Prize in the competition section of the Asian digital pictures at Hong Kong International Film Festival, and was named “The Best Picture of 2004” by the Hong Kong Art Centre. His second feature Mongolian Ping Pong (2004) was selected into the forum of the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, and also won the Audience Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

　　In 2006, Ning Hao directed his third feature Crazy Stone (2006). This crime comedy not only achieved unexpected box-office success in mainland China, but was also a hit in the area of Hong Kong and Taiwan. It earned Ning the Best Original Screenplay award and the Best Film, the Best Director nomination at the Golden Horse Film Festival. This film is also nominated for the Best Asian Film of the Year by the Hong Kong Film Awards. Ning directed Crazy Racer in 2009. The film continued his distinguished style, and grossed 120 million yuan in mainland China. It also won the Best Visual Effects award at the Golden Horse Film Festival. His most previous works are Guns and Roses (2012) and No Man’s Land (2013), the latter was selected into the competition section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
