Introduction to the Tiantan Awards

 

  

The selection of “Tiantan Award” in 2016 is hosted by BTV, and The 6th Beijing International Film Festival is to be held in Beijing, China from April 16th to 23rd, 2016.

As the Host of “Tiantan Award”, relying on its own advantages, BTV will integrate “Tiantan Award” with its development objectives, content creation, and distribution channels, continuously adhere to the values of “Beauty in Variety, Harmony in Diversity”, and invite famous masters as the judges to extend the good reputation and brand influence of “Tiantan Award” in the industry with an international vision, normative procedures and professional standards.

BTV and Beijing Film Academy, the Organizer, have jointly established the Competition Department of “Tiantan Award” to fully rely on the professional team and industry resources of Beijing Film Academy to organize and implement the selection of “Tiantan Award”. Seven world-renowned filmmakers are invited to establish the Selection Committee of “Tiantan Award” to decide ten awards of Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Music, and Best Visual Effects after voting in accordance with international practices and rules based on centralized view and full discussion. All winners will each be presented with a certificate and a trophy at the Closing Ceremony of the 6th Beijing International Film Festival.

For the purpose of “maintaining world preeminent class, reflecting international perspectives, and highlighting human feelings”, Competition Department of “Tiantan Award” have invited a number of prestigious filmmakers in the world film circle, and ultimately determined the jury of this session of “Tiantan Award”, whose seven members include the jury president, Mr. Brett Ratner, American producer of this year’s Oscar awarded nominee “The Revenant”, and six judges, Teddy Chan (Chinese director from Hong Kong), Henckel von Donnersmarck (German director), Corneliu Porumboiu (Romanian director), Florian Yojiro Takita (Japanese director), Danis Tanovic (Bosnian and Herzegovinan director), and Xu Qing (Chinese actor).

The Selection Competition Department of “Tiantan Award” has received 433 films from 42 countries and regions on six continents for the competition, including 230 international films and 203 domestic films. Participating films are of rich themes, various types, diverse styles, and significantly improved quality than the past.
