Media Briefing for Golden Years

A media briefing for Golden Years, a British film shortlisted to Tiantan Award, was held at Beijing International Hotel on April 21 at 11:10 am. Present were John Miller (director), Brad Moore (supporting actor), and Mark Foligno (producer).

It seems like a story portraying the leisure life of the elderly, yet it's intricate and full of interest. Fate, the pensions crisis and a steadfast refusal to accept the injustice of old age have compelled the law abiding, retired couple, Arthur and Martha Goode into a life of crime. Refusing to take the loss of their pensions lying down and to fade away into their declining years, our characters decide to fight back. They decide to take back what was theirs in the first place and to start robbing banks.

John Miller hopes to pose a challenge to the prejudice against the elderly by virtue of his film, “Some people hold the view that the age of a person would be a barrier to live an easy and comfortable life, while the film Golden Years questions this idea. The film discusses the constraints imposed upon the elderly, and that upon ourselves by each of us. Does it mean you fail to live a life as you like because you get old? Does it mean you fail to have a target that you get old? Does it mean you are a loser that you get old? The film is full of dialogues, and the characters speak a lot. They have experienced a lot, and they have a lot to say. They need to control their life.”

The film details living in Britain. John Miller said, Golden Years is a love letter sending to those who attach thoughts to Britain. “Through the film, the viewers will feel unique British eccentricity, from daytime TV to afternoon tea, from caravan to the mansions of the National Trust.”

Brad Moore, starring Stringer, acted in Montana (2014), North V South (2015), and Golden Years (2016). He was born in University College London Hospital. His mother, Brenda Moore, is a Jewish Italian ballet dancer and his father, Ronnie. He gave his father a pet name, an “opportunist” from East End of London. Before his 40, he lived in the commercial street. In his view, he learned a lot from that period of life, and he knew he had to face the challenge. When he turned 40 years old, he changed his career, gave solo comedy performance tour and appeared in over 20 short films. Later on, he starred many feature films, including Best Laid Plans (2012, co-starred by Stephen Graham), Wasteland (2012, co-starred by Timothy Spall), Montana (2014, co-starred by Ashley Walters, Lars Mikkelsen and Michelle Fairley). He played the protagonist in North V South for the first time, which was released in October 2015 and is co-starred by Steven Berkoff and Bernard Hill.
