Li Guangjie Shows Love by Inviting Disabled People to Screenings in Beijing

On April 21 at UME International Cineplex, famous film star Li Guangjie paid his own money for 90 disabled athletes from Beijing Culture and Sports Center for the Disabled and disabled friends from Haidian District to watch the Spanish film A Perfect Day from the Gewara+Wepiao?Beijing Film Panorama of this year’s film festival. The film has also been nominated for this year’s Tiantan Award.

A disabled person attending the event told reporters with a smile, “We really are very happy. Today is the most beautiful and the happiest day for us.” Deputy Chairman of the Haidian District Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities Ma Hongxiang spoke frankly about disabled people often not having the opportunity to watch films. Making a trip out is particularly difficult. It is not only the moving about that is inconvenient, you also have to trouble your family to take care of you. “Upon hearing about Mr. Li Guangjie inviting us to watch a film, everyone thought about taking this opportunity to get together with friends and so they all came. Thank you so much Mr. Li for your kind gesture. We hope his acting career goes from strength to strength.”

To properly carry out this film screening event for disabled people, UME International Cineplex carried out detailed preparation. The cinema adjusted the screening time of the other films of Cinema Six for public benefit films, extending the admission time for public benefit films from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, making it convenient for disabled audience members to enter the venue; meanwhile, the door closest to the elevator from Cinema Six was opened up so that people didn’t have to walk as much; in addition, before the screening of the film, the cinema put on all the lighting it could in Cinema Six; also, two extra workers were added, making it convenient for people to find their own seats faster.

As to being able to invite disabled friends to attend the public benefit film screening event, actor Li Guangjie said: “I’m very happy that I was able to invite everyone to watch A Perfect Day. I think what’s great about the film is that it unreservedly shows its charm to everyone and this doesn’t change through time or whoever is watching it. Film is a beautiful dream that everyone can pursue. Everyone should enjoy A Perfect Day to the fullest!”

The BJIFF Out-of-Competition Section is the most welcomed film viewing event among film fans. This year’s film festival fully utilizes the screening facilities of cinemas, the China Film Archives, Beijing Film Academy and some universities across the whole city, extending the coverage area, spreading out all over Beijing, allowing even more audience members and film fans make it to the cinema. Whether it’s film quantity, quality or the participation and reaction levels of audience members, all have exceeded figures in the past.
