2016 “Beijing Night”--Beijing International Film Festival Reception

 

  The 2016“Beijing Night” Beijing International Film Festival Reception hosted by the organizing committee of Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) was held in the evening of September 10, Toronto local time, the third day of the 41st Toronto International Film Festival. Over 200 industry professionals were present at the event, including Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of BJIFF, Mr. Jianguo Bian; Consul General of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, Mr. Bing Xue; Chair of Board of Directors of Toronto International Film Festival, Ms. Lisa de Wilde; Artistic Director of Toronto International Film Festival, Mr. Cameron Bailey, well as many other well-known directors, film producers and film studios worldwide.

 Mr. Jianguo Bian, Deputy Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of BJIFF, delivered an opening remark and introduced the development of Beijing International Film Festival. During the last six years, Beijing International Film Festival has undergone the procedure of high-end kickoff and rapid development, and has formed up the styles of “Master, Mass and Market”. It has fully collected world famous film masters, integrated global film resources and expanded international film market. Beijing International Film Festival has now won the heart of Chinese filmgoers and has gradually attracted the attention of filmmakers from all over the world, showing unprecedented vitality.

  As a cultural brand, BJIFF has been developing successfully in the past6 years and has now become an important business card of Beijing. About 15,000 Chinese and foreign guests and industrial professionals from 300 film institutions of over 50 countries and regions, attended the 6th BJIFF. During the festival, nearly 340 various activities were held. More than 500 excellent Chinese and foreign films were screened with a total of over 1,000 screenings, which attracted nearly 220,000filmgoers and reaped over 1.53 million at the box office. More than 200 Chinese and foreign exhibitors participated in the film market. The contract volume exceeded 2.45 billion dollars, consolidating China’s position as the No. 1 film market in Asia. Approximately 300 domestic and foreign media participated in the coverage of the film festival.

 

 

  Mr. Jianguo Bian also revealed the preparation of the 7th Beijing International Film Festival which will be held in Beijing next April. Seven major activities are scheduled to be held, including main competition unit “Tiantan Award” selection, opening and closing ceremony, Beijing Film Panorama, Theme Forum, Beijing Film Market, Film Carnival, etc. A rich variety of related events, such as the “Forward Future” Unit aiming to encourage new directors, Documentary Section,“Classical Peking Opera Film” Section, Film Music Concert, will also be held during the festival.
    Our reception held in Toronto is a sincere invitation to worldwide film industry professional. The organizing committee of BJIFF shall continue to demonstrate the core value of “Beauty in Variety, Harmony in Diversity” in the process of confirming the “Tiantan Award”.
