The Yangtze River is a river of time Team of Crosscurrent to present at Red Carpet for the Opening Ceremony of 6th BJIFF

 
  One is an unsuccessful poetic captain, and the other is a female spiritual practitioner. Against time, in a direction contrary to the current of the Yangtze River, man, woman and the past of the river are explored.Starred by Qin Hao, Xin Zhilei, Tan Kai, and Wu Lipeng, written and directed by new director Yang Chao, the film Crosscurrent, as the only shortlisted Chinese film of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, won the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution. On April 16, 2016, Director Yang Chao and his team including Xin Zhilei, Tan Kai and Wu Lipeng will take part in the 6th Beijing International Film Festival, and appear on the Red Carpet.

 

  

  The stories of Crosscurrent took place on the Yangtze River. Gao Chun, a captain of a cargo ship, acted by artistic idol Qin Hao, seems to meet with the same woman at different wharfs. The woman, acted by Xin Zhilei, to be exact, is An Lu in different periods. Gao Chun has a crush on An Lu, but she disappears when passing the Three Gorges. With a handwritten collection of poems whose author is unknown, Gao Chun sails alone till the source of the Yangtze River, and finds An Lu’s origin and the secret of the Yangtze River.

  

 

  

  

 

  

  

 

  

  Yang Chao, director of the film, won the 57th Special Prize for Gold Camera Award of the Festival de Cannes with his debut long film Passages. Mark Lee Ping-Bin, who has won several cinematography awards in Cannes Film Festival and Golden Horse Award, is the chief cinematographer of Director Hou Hsiao-hsien. Most of scenes of Crosscurrent are shot in films, and magnificence of the Yangtze River back in time are presented through light and shadow.
