The Oriental Phantom of the Opera, from the Bund of Shanghai to Beijing Film Festival

Known as the oriental Phantom of the Opera, The Magic City No.14 has attracted attention since it starts shooting. This is another vanguard film after The House That Never Dies and the first Chinese magnificent magic blockbuster. The film depicts a story happened in voluptuous Shanghai in the 1930s, re-presenting the prosperity and charm of Shanghai in its peak time, with distinctive characteristics of that time and irreproachably interpreting the humanity.

During the 5th Beijing International Film Festival, the cast of The Magic City No.14 will make their red carpet appearance and bring the charm of oriental magic films to the world’s cinema.

The Magic City No.14 is produced by Manfred Wong, a prominent Hong Kong filmmaker, with the experience of producing over 100 films. This film is directed by Raymond Yip from Hong Kong, who directed many blockbusters such as The Warlords, Bodyguards and Assassins and The House That Never Dies. In addition to the two famous Hong Kong filmmakers Manfred Wong and Raymond Yip, the all-star cast of The Magic City No.14 also includes Ruby Lin, Tony Yang, Simon Yam, as well as famous movie stars such as Huang Lei, Jing Ganghshan, Li Jing and He Yunwei.

The film breaks the inherent form and structure of horror films and makes innovations in the screenplay. With magnificent effect, this film provides audiences with an unprecedented sense of shocking, along with subconsciously growing horror from the heart, while such horror could not find an outlet to let off. Ruby Lin, the leading actress claims that it’s too stressful to play the role and she needs to wear the talisman every day. So, we could image how horrible this film is. How many secretes are behind the luxurious life? These secretes are waiting for uncovering by the destiny.
It’s heard that The Magic City No. 14 will be screened at the prime time in summer holiday. Let’s wait to see whether it could break box-office record of The House That Never Dies?
