It was not called as Beijing International Film Festival in the beginning, but Chinese Beijing International Film Season in Chinese. But we insisted on using the International Film Festival in English. And it was directly renamed as Beijing International Film Festival in the second session." Zhang Huijun still remains fresh in his memory about the details of the report. "I said, Beijing, as a political, cultural and economic centre, if with no film festival, how Chinese culture shall be spread out, how to exchange with the outside world..." Looking back today, the Beijing International Film Festival and the blowout development of Chinese market during the past five years complemented and enhanced each other.
