The ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Section & 2024 Launch Ceremony, one of the major events at the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), grandly kicked off at O-Box, Langyuan Station. The annual event signals that the section is now in the third year of its collaboration with the BJIFF, and will continue to fulfill its mission of encouraging young people to participate in social good video creation.

▌Undergoing great changes in three years, and helping young creators accelerate growth　　

In 2021, the ASUS e-Innovation Volunteer Actions joined hands with the BJIFF to add the ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Section for innovation cooperation. On this platform, young creators can deeply explore natural landscapes and cultural stories of their hometowns, record the beauty with their cameras, and display the diversity and uniqueness of regional cultures.

Over the past three years, the section has solicited more than 1,200 social good videos, which were acclaimed by media and local cultural and tourism authorities. Over 120 students have been named college student ambassadors by local cultural and tourism authorities, becoming an excellent communication case in telling hometown stories, and setting a good example for the youth group of ASUS e-Volunteer.

The ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Section was originally aimed to arouse more people's enthusiasm for social good, and make every participant the initiator of social good. By exploring more ways to effectively drive young talents’ growth, the section has helped and witnessed the extraordinary performance of volunteers and young creators at major domestic and overseas film festivals.

At present, with the arrival of the AI-led revolutionary age, AIGC technology is exploring new possibilities of film and television production with its unique innovation. Based on the successful launch of the event in previous three sessions, hometown stories, young figures and AI technology have become three core creative themes of the ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Section this year.

Besides, the 2024 ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Project also set up a “free proposition section”, which is aimed to arouse creators’ concern about social problems, promote the public understanding of relevant issues, and let social good influence more people. In this process, ASUS will continue to provide support, so that good ideas about social good can be transformed into volunteer actions and converged into “group portraits of the youth” in 2024.

The jury of the 2024 ASUS e-Volunteer Social Good Video Section, composed of 20 professional members, will ensure fairness, justice and authority in the selection process. They will provide professional guidance and support for young creators.

▌Actively embracing changes in the AIGC age, and exploring infinite possibilities in the future with the integration of “technology and art”

At the event, the Youth Video Creation Forum in the AIGC Age under the theme of innovation was also organized. A few representatives from academic circles and the creation sector attended the forum. The panelists generally agreed that AIGC will significantly propel video creation. Yet, AIGC's exploration of video art creation in this age requires creators’ unremitting endeavors as well as breakthroughs in the art education sector. As Ms. Zheng Wei said, “Our mission is to embrace changes and uncertainties, keep learning and iterate on ourselves.”

The event also received strong support from the industry. A number of heavyweight industry guests were present at the event, including Xu Tong, one of the representatives of independent documentary directors in China; famous director, screenwriter and producer Zhou Difei; Gao Xiongjie from the Central Academy of Drama; well-known director, screenwriter and actor Liang Ming; Fang Gangliang, director, screenwriter, executive producer, associate professor at the Directing Department of Beijing Film Academy, supervisor of master students, director of the China Children’s Film Association and member of the China Film Directors’ Guild; Yu Ming, associate professor at the School of Arts and Communication of Beijing Normal University and documentary director; Liu Jingdong from the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; and other well-known experts and artists in the industry, who will serve as members of the Jury in 2024.
