Pitching Projects Shortlisted for Final-round Roadshow and Negotiation at the 12th BJIFF
According to the requirements of the epidemic prevention and control, a quarter of the relevant parties decide to conduct the interviews online (or both online and offline) at the second-round selection of the project pitches this year. At the special moment, the filmmakers busy with artistic creation are trying to fully display the unique power of images. At the critical time for the entire film industry to be more united, the BJIFF Project Pitches will also bear more responsibilities. Since many filmmakers have precious original aspiration and courage, the film festival will certainly provide full support for them.
Project Migratory Sounds in the Online Interview
Since the first-round selection, 30 pitching projects and 10 WIP projects have ushered into the second-round process. After the jury review, interviews and closed-door meeting, 10 pitching projects and 6 WIP projects will be shortlisted for the final-round roadshow to compete for the awards in mid-August.
The other 10 pitching projects and 4 WIP projects failed to be shortlisted will also have opportunities to be displayed in the "Online Beijing Film Market" section at the BJIFF's official website to win the opportunity of negotiating with the investors.
Before the project presentation here, all the creators behind have their own identities, such as young students who have received professional film education, film historians, film festival founders and even the mature directors with rich project experience whose works have been shortlisted for major international film festivals or screened in theaters; however, more of them are "newcomers" in the film industry such as documentary photographers who have followed the anti-drug police for years, planning staff of ad copywriting and architect who studies in France and creates a video team with three family members… No matter where the voyage starts or how the scenery along looks like, they will get together here with the dream of films.

Different backgrounds of the creative team endow the project with splendid characteristics and highlights as well as diverse themes and perspectives. The project with academic background presents the professional script, audio-visual concept and production level; while the growth of the project without academic background brings different individual experiences for the creation; the interest and practice in various art forms bring a variety of imagination and creativity; while the experience and knowledge in real life provide a solid foundation for various realistic themes.
They came for the project pitches at the BJIFF with different purposes and expectations—
"I hope to show this project to everyone and consult with the professionals or audiences so as to make further improvement."
"I suffered from a lot of setbacks during the process of turning the script into a film, and I really hope to meet a producer who can help me carry on the whole project forward."
"I hope to find investors interested in my project here to jointly promote the project production and operation."
We sincerely expect all these works can achieve their dreams of “turning stories into films” on the stage of BJIFF Project Pitches.
