How time flies! The Project Pitches has been organized successfully for 13 editions. The quantitative accumulation brings its quality to next level. Over the past 13 years, outstanding stories were rendered visible through the Project Pitches, and excellent filmmakers set sail to pursue their dreams. In the meantime, we continue to heed the opinions of young filmmakers and the market with a view to supporting young filmmakers and safeguarding filmmakers’ abundant inspiration and talents yet to be discovered. And we adjust our position in a timely manner. While paying attention to mainstream subject matters, we increase our tracks from the initial script projects to multiple sections, including script projects, WIP, sports film projects and projects of Hong Kong, China. We are striding forward as always with firm faith.
Over the past 13 years, with more than 8,000 screenplays submitted from the industry, we invited project developers, renowned directors, screenwriters and producers in the front line to be jury members. Based on full respect for jury members’ professional opinions, numerous talented filmmakers were discovered through three rounds of review and selection: Gu Xiaogang, Xu Lei, Bai Zhiqiang, Liu Xiang and Qiu Shengbin among others. And a talent pool comprising over 100 young filmmaker is therefore built. We tried breaking conventions, exploring boundaries and reconstructing rules over the years. It’s evolved into an everlasting young filmmaker training system with unique characteristics and defined stages, through which young filmmakers are better prepared for tests and ordeals of the market. Thanks to the Project Pitches, dozens of debut films with high grossing and good rating are incubated and released, such as the Knock Knock, Like Father and Son, Summer Detective and so on. The platform not only connects films with the market, but also helps realize dreams.

The Project Pitches carries on. Let’s turn our attention to the market. The 14th BJIFF Project Pitches will bring in the Young Filmmaker Support Fund for the first time. Winners will be recommended to the fund, through which they will establish ties with the market quickly, have their financing difficulties solved, complete the industrialized production of their films, thus translating their creative ideas into cinema releases. The Young Filmmaker Support Fund aims to strengthen frequent interaction among the Project Pitches, creators and market, provide support and business connections for good stories, and respond to and fulfill creators’ heated needs and expectations as many as possible. Meanwhile, the 14th BJIFF Project Pitches has gathered 8 companies for the first-round review. In order to step up interaction with the industry, for the first time, the Project Pitches called for companies to join the first-round review. And the companies are determined through rounds of selection. We’d like to announce one of the companies for the first-round view—Eastern Grace Film. With its powerful filmmaking team and attention to young filmmakers, the company fit in the BJIFF Project Pitches readily, and became part of the first-round review. The other 7 companies will be announced subsequently. And we look forward to their contribution to a more diverse and thorough review system. Moreover, the 14th BJIFF Beijing Film Night Reception will be convened as planned. Jury members of the Project Pitches, industry guests and young filmmakers will dine and wine together in the spring evening at Langyuan Station. They will share their insights and ideas, and look forward to a new chapter of the film industry.
The BJIFF Project Pitches is committed to helping young filmmakers focus on their film creation, providing them with all-round full support, and empowering them to set sail and pursue their dreams when they are ready. We will continue to work with the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) and Beijing International Sports Film Week, further break down our tracks, and enrich the subject matters and contents.
