Interpreting Screen Magic, the 14th BJIFF Screen Acting Open Courses Is to Be Launched!
In the film world, creators use light and shadow as the pen and emotion as the ink to write moving stories on the screen. The art of film is inseparable from the director's conception and the actors' interpretation. It is precisely under the presentation of the performing art that the audience can be immersed in the story world, substitute for the characters, and share sorrow and joy with them. However, the audience can only see the final result presented by the actor on the screen, and how the actor can understand the role step by step, integrate into the role, and become the role, and how the director can stimulate the actor's performance potential... That is the valuable wisdom in addition to fully fulfilling the role. Therefore, this year's BJIFF will hold Screen Acting Open Courses, with a view to building a platform for future practitioners of Chinese film to interact with outstanding filmmakers in the industry.
Venue: O-Box, Langyuan Station
Time: 1:30PM-3:00PM, April 23
Liu Tianchi, acting teacher and associate professor of Department of Acting, Central Academy of Drama, as well as director Liu Jiangjiang and actress Huang Yao, will be invited to the courses as moderator and panelists respectively to share with the audience their experience in film creation practice, and the audience can conduct in-depth interaction with then in the form of scene simulation.
Liu Tianchi began her film career in 1994 with an outstanding performance in Zhang Yimou's productions, but in recent years she has become better known as an acting instructor and founded the TCHUG. She has served as acting director in many films, TV dramas and variety shows, and participated in such works as The Flowers of War and Creation of the Gods trilogy. From audition, training, casting to actual shooting, Liu Tianchi's work as an acting director runs through the entire production, building a bridge between the actor/actress and the director.
Compared with other arts, film focuses more on the director's expression. In the shooting scene, the director's excellent guidance can make the performance of the actor/actress reach the effect of 1+1>2. To this end, young director Liu Jiangjiang has been invited to this year’s Screen Acting Open Courses. Liu Jiangjiang made his directorial debut in 2022 with his self-written and self-directed film Lighting Up the Stars, which went on to win the Best Directorial Debut at the 35th Golden Rooster Awards. He also received the honor of the Screenwriters Recommended 2021-2022 at the 3rd "Cinema China" Ceremony for the film.
The event has also invited young actor Huang Yao. She was known by the audience with her superb performance in the role of the young girl Pei Pei in The Crossing, and won the Fei Mu Award for Best Actress at the 2nd Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival for this film. Subsequently, Huang Yao played the role of young photographer Ouyang Wenhui in the film The Shadowless Tower directed by Zhang Lu, which was selected in the Competition Section of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival and nominated for the Tiantan Award of the 13th BJIFF for Best Feature Film, winning five awards including the Tiantan Award for Best Screenplay and Best Artistic Contribution. Huang Yao was also nominated for the Golden Rooster Award for Best Actress for this film.
This year’s Screen Acting Open Courses focuses on the "reality" experience, fully demonstrates and simulates all aspects of the performing arts in the film creation process, adheres to the purpose of "Share the Screen, Shape the Future", and provides an in-depth exchange and interactive learning opportunity for pitching directors and students from the directing and acting departments of universities.
