“Tuantuan & Yuanyuan” Project Established Cooperation with BJIFF!
Cooperation Project of Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) and "Tuantuan & Yuanyuan" Launched
On November 20, the 5th Cross-Strait Youth Peaceful Development Forum and the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Cross-Strait Youth Innovation Alliance were held in Beijing.
During the event, the signing ceremony of the "Tuantuan & Yuanyuan” project with the Organizing Committee of the BJIFF and the Cross-Strait Productivity Working Committee was held. Leaders and guests such as Zheng Jianbang, Executive Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Long Mingbiao, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee CPC and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC, and Zhang Bojun, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, launched the cooperation project.
Through the cooperation of relevant parties across the Taiwan Strait, taking the giant pandas "Tuan Tuan" and "Yuan Yuan" donated by the Mainland to Taiwan as prototypes, they jointly created an excellent series of cultural and artistic work "Tuantuan & Yuanyuan". The cartoon image of "Tuantuan & Yuanyuan” aims to tell the Chinese stories of unity, kinship and homeland to children from all over the world through Chinese giant panda, a Chinese symbol recognized by the world, and to spread China's excellent traditional culture in the form of cartoon.
Cross-strait cooperation is one of the important features of the project. At present, nearly 20 units including partners in Taiwan have participated in the preparation and promotion of the project, which has received positive feedback and initial recognition from the industry.
The project involves many fields and industries, including: children's stage plays, movies, animation, TV programs, games, picture books, theme parks, parent-child restaurants, intelligent education and peripheral and derivative products.
"It is our common responsibility for the two sides to join hands to carry forward the traditional Chinese culture and achieve the spiritual harmony of compatriots on both sides." Liu Zheng, member of the National Unification Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and Secretary-General of the Cross-Strait Cooperative Promotion Working Committee of "Tuantuan & Yuanyuan", said that the project should serve as a platform to build a good practice base, employment base and entrepreneurship base for Taiwan's youth and become an important brand for the national unification work of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang.
Salute Angels in White
On 15 November, in order to express gratitude to the medical staff for their efforts and contributions during the pandemic, a performance on the theme of "Promoting the Spirit of Anti-Pandemic and Creating a Better Cross-Strait Relationship”, jointly sponsored by the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Beijing Performance & Arts Group and Beijing Theatre for Children, was staged in Beijing Poly Theatre. Nearly 1,000 medical staff and their families from a few hospitals in Beijing were invited to watch the children's stage play Tuantuan & Yuanyuan for free.
As for the original intention of holding this activity, Zhang Qingying, Deputy Director of the Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, said: “Tuantuan & Yuanyuan has been staged for nearly 100 times. From the beginning of its creation until now, we have always cared about public welfare undertakings. We have held special Children's Day performances for audiences such as police officers, preschool education teachers and workers in other industries, who usually have less family time, to get together with their children in the theater. During the pandemic, medical workers gave up their family time for everyone in the society to fight against the virus in the front line with rigorous scientific attitude and selfless contribution, which impressed us deeply. As the whole society are saluting them, our Tuantuan & Yuanyuan will also be a part of it. We hope to take this public welfare activity as an opportunity with childlike innocence as the channel, and express our love and support to the medical workers through wonderful performances.

The children's stage play Tuantuan & Yuanyuan is one of the series works of the eponymous cross-strait key cultural exchange project. Created by artists from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, with the giant pandas "Tuan Tuan” and “Yuan Yuan" donated to Taiwan as the prototypes, it tells the story of the giant panda "Tuantuan” who goes through all kinds of difficulties to find his sister "Yuanyuan" and finally gets reunion. The interesting story and the magnificent stage scenes not only show the audience the extensive and profound traditional Chinese culture, but also tell the spiritual connotation of unity and the significance of guarding the homeland.
Chao Lemeng, Director of Beijing Theatre for Children, said: “The theme of unity and guarding the homeland in the play is consistent with the Chinese spirit displayed by medical workers during the pandemic prevention and control this year. Beijing Theatre for Children hopes to let our children remember such a great battle and that there are also a hordes of heroes who are dauntless to sacrifice in a peaceful era, thus realizing the importance of unity to a country and a nation.”
In the future, Tuantuan & Yuanyuan will continue to be steadfast in the aim of "carrying forward the traditional Chinese culture and promoting cross-strait cultural exchanges". Based on more excellent contents such as film and television culture and cross-strait cultural tourism, it will strengthen mutual learning and communication between young people and children on both sides of the Taiwan Strait so as to realize mutual development and promote the reunification of the motherland.
