13th BJIFF Short Video Section Calls for Global Entries!

The 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) Short Video Section is now opening for entries from around the world.

 

Organized by the Communication University of China, this edition features the theme of “Culture and Civilization in Short Videos”. Creators are encouraged to use new technologies and platforms to get closer to the current reality, capture inspirational and touching moments in daily life, shape a complete and lively image of Chinese culture, showcase new China style in the new era, and produce excellent short videos that are insightful, relatable and timely.

 

The section consists of multiple sub-sections, such as the Review and Recommendation, Masterpiece Panorama, Master’s Workshop and Forum Series. Entries will be reviewed and selected by authoritative experts in the industry, and the creators of outstanding works will have the opportunity to participate in the activities at the 13th BJIFF such as Short Video Panorama, and High-end Forum on the Cutting Edge of Short Video Creation and Industry Development.

 

1. Requirements

1.1 The runtime of the video should be within 10 minutes, and if the entry is a series of short videos, the number should not be more than 3.

1.2 The video should be based on real life, actively spread positive energy, and not involve pornography, violence and racial discrimination or violate the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China and social morality.

1.3 The video format of MP4 is a must, with optional landscape and portrait screens without watermark, and the size of a single file does not exceed 1G.

3. Categories

3.1 News
Short video works that are short, concise and interesting with necessary news elements.

3.2 Life
Short video works that record the ordinary but power-packed people around you, capture inspirational and touching moments in daily life, and reflect the social development and changes today.

3.3 Knowledge
Short video works that function as knowledge popularization, focus on life skills, scientific knowledge, learning skills, experience sharing and others, and feature accurate audio-visual expression.

3.4 Entertainment
Short video works that are fun, artistic and insightful in such forms as micro film, micro drama, short music video, and short animation video

3.5 Creativity
Short video works that are unique in terms of audio-visual style with innovation and breakthroughs in filming techniques, editing ideas, and narrative perspectives, etc.

 

4. Selection

The jury will select shortlisted entries, Best Short Video and Short Video of the Year awards in the news, life, knowledge, entertainment and creativity categories. Moreover, this edition adds “Rural Revitalization” and “Beautiful China” categories, and corresponding Short Video of the Year honors will be presented. Based on entries submitted, the Short Video with Most Social Impacts, Short Video with Best International Communication, Short Video with Most Public Welfare Value, and Best Organizer will be selected.

 

5. How to apply

5.1 Scan the QR code or refer to the link below to get the entry form and fill it out as required.

5.2 Send the following documents to the email address (bjiffsv@163.com), with the email subject and naming of the film file like: film category (News/Knowledge/Creativity/Life/Entertainment) + “film title” + creator’s name.

 (1) Completed entry form (Microsoft Word)
 (2) Completed and signed/stamped entry form (PDF)
 (3) Works attached to the text as attachments or permanent download links

5.3 The entry time shall be subject to the time of receipt, and the Organizing Committee will inform you with selection results via email/SMS.

 

6. Notice

6.1 No fee will be charged for entries.

6.2 Short video works shall be entered by the short video creator or producer and distributor. The applicant must ensure the originality of his/her work, without plagiarism or borrowing the work of others. The picture and sound materials used in the work must not be involved in copyright disputes. The Organizing Committee, along with the host and the organizer, will not assume any legal responsibility.

6.3 Applicants must agree that the Organizing Committee has this work for non-commercial activities such as the promotion of the teaser on the official website of the event in order to facilitate the selection of short video works and the success of the event.
