Full of Thrill and Imagination, Five Best Films to Be Explored
The "Midnight Thrill" section in Beijing Film Panorama has been highly anticipated and loved by fans. The "Carnival - Midnight Thrill” section of the 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) will continue to bring the latest and most exciting films to the audience -- five highlights of the world's most daring films since 2022.

  Still of #Manhole
#Manhole, directed by Kazuyoshi Kumakiri, just won award from the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. With the hero falling into a deep well, the film successfully reinvents the one-scene escape genre and takes it to a new level.
The film constantly breaks the conventional narrative routine and designs more epochal and more tense scenes for the characters. The "#" in the title is where the core setting is. The film is full of ups and downs, being dramatic without a frame wasted. Such a film so determined not to be revealed is an experience not to be missed in the "Midnight Thrill" section.

  Still of Nope
Nope is the third film directed by Jordan Peele. The "Midnight Thrill" section in 2018 brought his first feature film, Get Out. Jordan Peele, the current representative of the American thriller film, has changed people's impression of his work with Nope. While retaining the horror elements he excelled at, Jordan Peele set his sights on the history of cinema.
By investigating an eternally static cloud on the horizon, Nope achieves Jordan Peele's new inquiry into film itself in a bizarre, eerie style. The film not only achieved good box office results, but also ranked third of top 10 films of 2022 from Cahiers du Cinéma, a famous cinema journal in France. Both 4K and Dolby Vision versions of the film will be presented at the Beijing Film Panorama, which will give audiences a feast for the eyes.

  Still of Nightsiren
Nightsiren tells the story of the crises a young woman faces when she returns to her mountain village. The woman's return is not welcomed by the villagers. Witchcraft, ritual, and the potential for killing all add up to a tense suspense and atmosphere.
The director, Tereza Nvotová, is very young, but she has shown great maturity in this production, and she keeps the pace until the last moment with a steady and sophisticated approach. The visual design of the film is also excellent, with both the bleak everyday scenes and some dreamy passages worthy of immersion on the big screen. The film won the Golden Leopard at the Concorso Cineasti del presente of the 75th Locarno Film Festival.

  Still of Hand
Satori Matsuki is one of the most anticipated Japanese filmmakers today. He is not only prolific, but also has amazing designs and ideas for every film. As an old friend of the BJIFF, his latest work, Hand, explores women's emotional awakening and self-discovery.
Hand is as much a film that straddles the boundaries of desire as it is a profound exploration of its characters' desires and emotional shifts. Through the design of various intimate scenes to tease and titillate the audience's psychology, the film is bold and eye-catching, and is a talented and watchable excellent work.

  Still of Pearl
Pearl, released by A24, is also one of the most talked-about thrillers of 2022.The film is directed by Ti West, starring and co-written by Mia Goth. Pearl is set during the First World War. Pearl, an ordinary woman with a dream of becoming a star, is psychologically distorted due to the depression of her family. Mia Goth delivers a terrifyingly pathetic portrayal of a woman trapped in her family, a stunning display of power that culminates in the film's most impressive performance of the year.
Welcome to the "Midnight Thrill" section to enjoy these distinctive and wonderful best films, and enjoy together on the screen of tension, stimulation, touch and shock.
