Dozens of Screenings ! Ready to Enjoy the Grand Carnival This Spring?
When we look back at the present in the future, the 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) will undoubtedly become a milestone: compared to last year, the number of screenings has quadrupled and all film fans will soon usher in a grand offline carnival this spring. Without further ado, let's see how wonderful it is!
  Still of Aquaman
On April 19, the WB 100 Classic Film Exhibition will grandly open at the Chinese Film Archive Art Cinema. At the same time, a special screening of Aquaman will also be held, where the audience on the site will receive commemorative gifts. WB100 makes every story shining with brilliance. 
On April 20, Director Xie Fei will meet with the audience at the meet-and-greet after the screening of Woman Sesame Oil Maker at the Beijing Broadway Cinematheque (MOMA). The film won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and the film to be shown is the latest 4K restoration version. The masterpiece and the meet-and-greet with the master should not be missed. On the same day, there are also two sharing sessions of the Russian sports film Mister Nokaut, where Director Artyom Mikhalkov will share his experience in creating this sports biography film based on the prototype of the Russian legendary boxer Valery Popenchenko.
If you wish a dialogue with Director Kong Dashan, remember not to miss the screening of Journey to the West on April 21 at MEGABOX (Sanlitun). This highly acclaimed literary masterpiece and the meet-and-greet with cast & crew should never be missed!
April 22 marks the first day of official opening of the 13th BJIFF, and it is also the busiest day of screenings during the festival.
  A Still of Rouge 
At the Star Classic Cinema (Huairou), Stanley Kwan, one of the jury members of the 13th BJIFF Tiantan Award, will attend the meet-and-greet after the screening of Rough in 4K restoration version and share with the audience his thoughts on light and shadow as well as his aesthetic conception in this film.

The China Film Archive Art Cinema will hold the premiere ceremony of the 4K restoration version of Old Well directed by Zhang Yimou, jury president of the Tiantan Award. From 1986 to 2023, the restoration technology can keep the color of the film unchanged despite long period of time. We’re forwarding to witnessing it together. 
Genki Kawamura, a well-known Japanese producer, will also meet the audience after the screening of his first feature film A Hundred Flowers. He won the Silver Shell for Best Director at the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival. It is an extremely delicate film of family ethics that should not be missed. 
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of Kung Fu Panda, a special screening will be held at the Universal CityWalk Cinema in Beijing for the BJIFF film fans. Welcome to take photos with Po, a world popular panda!  
  Back-to-back marathon screening for Guardians of the Galaxy 1+2
We will also enjoy the only IMAX version of the back-to-back marathon screening for Guardians of the Galaxy 1+2 at the BJIFF this year. The audience can not only enjoy the exciting teasers of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 exclusively exposed for the first time, but also have the chance to win the exquisite peripherals! Marvel fans, move!
Wang Xiaodi, the director of stage art documentary Lin Zexu and Yang Dongsheng, a film director, will meet with the audience on April 22 at the Capital Cinema in Xidan Shop with the choreographer Huang Doudou and starring performers Pu Cunxin and Xu Fan. Never miss this opportunity to learn about how the stage and film are well balanced during the production. 
  A Still of Lost Love
The Making Waves - Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema section will open at the Broadway Cinematheque on April 22 and small gifts from the Hong Kong International Film Festival and Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) will be distributed at the opening ceremony. Cheuk Wan Chi, the director of Vital Sign, and Neo Yau, the leading actor, will communicate with the audience on the site. If you buy the ticket for the screening on April 23 at the Lumiere Pavilions Fangcaodi, you can also have a chance to exchange with the two members of the cast & crew. Hong Kong's emerging director, Kelvin Shum, and the producer, Charlie Wong, and starring Summer Chan will meet the audience after the two screenings of Wave of All Flesh. Director, Sing-Fung Ka and starring Luk Chun-Kwong will also meet the audience after the screening of Lost Love.
  A Still of One and Four
Also on April 22, the Tibetan crime suspense film One and Four will be screened at Lumiere Pavilions Fangcaodi. Hou Keming, the chief executive producer, Wang Lei, the producer, and some of the presenters including Peng Jin, Peng Bo and Shao Han, as well as the starring Jinpa, Wang Zheng, Kunde will attend the meet-and-greet with cast & crew after the screening.

As the focus filmmaker of this year’s BJIFF, Bas Devos will also bring his latest masterpiece Here for the audience at the Poly International Cinema (Tian’anmen) on this day, sharing the "small world” in his mind. The film made a good achievement at Berlin International Film Festival and won the Best Film in the Encounters section. The director will appear at the China Film Archive Art Cinema on April 23 to exchange with the audience after the screening.  
  Bas Devos 
On April 23, the opening ceremony of Thailand Film Week will be held at the Broadway Cinematheque, where the opening film Love Destiny The movie will be screened. The representative of the Royal Thai Embassy in China will be present to kick off the film week. 
On April 24, the meet-and-greet with cast & crew of Me and My Winter Games, the animation film exclusively authorized by the Winter Olympics, will be held at the Lumiere Pavilions Fangcaodi. 
Although the tickets have not yet been available, it can be predicted that the meet-and-greet with cast & crew of A City of Sadness on April 25 and April 26 are very likely to be the two most difficult to be available at the 13th BJIFF. The producer, Chiu Fu-sheng, and the editor, Liao Ching-Sung, will exchange with the audience about the past years, and it must be a very exciting occasion. Mr. Arthur Chu, a senior filmmaker who has made outstanding contributions to the restoration of classic films in Taiwan, China, will also attend the two session of meet-and-greet with cast & crew. Mr. Chiu and Mr. Chu have also prepared classic posters of A City of Sadness for the audience on the site. 
On April 25, the emerging young female director, Li Jiaxi, will bring the cast & crew to attend the meet-and-greet after the screening of Girls and Boys. On April 26, director Zhang Wei, screenwriters Qin Ying, Chen Yang and Wang Yu, actors Jing Ke, Zheng Luoqian and Man Lin will attend the meet-and-greet with cast & crew of Me and My Tiger Mom.
 
  Filming site of the Story of Rose
It is honored to invite six classic films direct by Yonfan, a Hong Kong film master, to be screened in The Retrospective section at this year’s BJIFF. After the screening of Story of Rose at the China Film Archive Art Cinema on April 26, Director Yonfan will discuss with scholar Wenqi Lin the aesthetic expression in the film and the anecdotes during the film production. Some limited posters will also be distributed to the film fans on the site. Director Yonfan, together with the leading actors Wang Fang and Zhao Wenlin, will also attend the meet-and-greet with cast & crew of Breaking the Willow on April 27 at Emperor Cinemas, Emperor Group Center. 
The boss of gangs is released from prison and once again stirs up the situation. If you are a fan of gangster film, you should not miss the Taiwanese gangster film Lost in the Forest directed by Jiang Ning and starring Kang-sheng Lee and Gina Li. Director Jiang Ning will attend the two session of meet-and-greet with cast & crew at Beijing Jackie Chan Cinema (Ciyun Temple) on April 26 and at Broadway Cinematheque on April 28. Hsiao Chien Lin, a new-generation director from Taiwan, China, will show up as a special guest at Jackie Chan Cinema (Ciyun Temple).
  A Still of The Taste of MacGuffin
The latest masterpiece by Director Li Yunbo, The Taste of MacGuffin, will make its debut at the BJIFF this year! It’s a film about the story of filmmaking with a strong suspensive plot, a "MacGuffin smell" that the audience can smell from the brief of this film. Director Li Yunbo and producer Zheng Wanshan as well as starring Zhang Xiaochen will meet the audience at the Broadway Cinematheque on April 26. 
On April 27, a meet-and-greet with the cast & crew of One Mountain Away will be held at the Capital Cinema in Xidan Shop. Kong and Jigme, a film shortlisted for the Tiantan Award last year will return to the BJIFF again. Director Chen Guoxing and Lhapal Gyal will meet with audience after the screening at the Lumiere Pavilions Fangcaodi on April 27.
Li Dongmei, the director of Mama, which won the Best Film of Fei Mu Awards at the 4th Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Venice International Film Festival, will attend the meet-and-greet with the cast & screw at the China Film Archive Art Cinema to share the sadness and emotion entrusted in the film. 
 
  A Still of Drift
A few days ago, news came from France that director Anthony Chen was shortlisted for the Certain Regard at the Festival de Cannes with his feature film The Breaking Ice. As a filmmaker in focus, Anthony Chen will attend the meet-and-greet with the cast & crew of Drift at the China Film Archive Art Cinema on April 28 and at the Broadway Cinematheque on April 29. On April 29, he will also meet as an executive producer with the audience after the screening of Ajoomma, a good film representing Singapore for “Oscar”.

The film The Cord of Life was shortlisted for the Asian Future Best Film Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Golden Coconut Award at the Hainan Island International Film Festival and won the Best Technology Award. Screenwriter and director Qiao Sixue, executive producer and photography director Cao Yu and executive producer Yao Chen will also attend the meet-and-greet with the cast & crew at the Lumiere Pavilions Fangcaodi on April 28 and share with the audience the film production behind the story of mother-child relationship on the prairie.
