Huang Jianxin, Art Advisor of Theme Forum: Inspiring Talks to Impress Everyone
Known for mastery of black humor playing with reality and demonstration of film fables based on amazing skills, Huang Jianxin, a representative of the "Fifth Generation" to the filmdom, is a great director, screenwriter, and producer as well as the Chairman of Beijing Film Association, Dean of the School of Film, Xiamen University. At this year’s Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), he will act as an art advisor for the Theme Forum.

Huang Jianxin, Art Advisor of the Theme Forum
For this year’s Theme Forum, a total of four core forums will be organized under the theme of the “Establishment and Breakthrough amidst the Changing Film Industry Landscape”, “The Excellence and Diversity of Film Creation”, “Breakthroughs and Navigating Challenges in Film Investment and Financing”, and “Empowering Film Production and Development with Digital High-Tech Innovations”, respectively. Numerous film professionals all over the world will get together and discuss hot topics such as the development of AI technology, diversity of film creation, breakthroughs in investment and financing, and filming with virtual technology.
It is in fact not the first time for him to be a part of the BJIFF Theme Forum.
In 2023, he said at the 13th BJIFF Film Power Forum on International Cooperation that filmmakers should always be equal without any gaps, since films have the power to break through cultural barriers.
In 2022, he proposed a meaningful criterion for good films at the 12th BJIFF “Film Power Forum—Exploration, Pursuit and Creation of ‘Peak’ Films”: A good film should be made of a good story, embody public feelings, contain artistic imagination, and manifest an open mind and unconventional spirit ...
The ideas of art he shared at each forum are almost evidenced in his production.
The 14th BJIFF also features a retrospective of Huang Jianxin's works under the section of "Beijing Film Panorama · Retrospective”, including his pioneering masterpieces with bold attempts, such as The Black Cannon Incident (4K) (1986), Dislocation (1986), and Samsara, as well as his understandings and criticism over the reality on human and society, such as Stand Right, Don’t Bend Over (1993), Back to Back, Face to Face (1994), Signal Left, Turn Right (1996), and Gimme Kudos.

Amid the 14th BJIFF, director Huang Jianxin in person will attend the Opening Ceremony of "Retrospective – Huang Jianxin" at Lao She Theater. Just stay tuned!
