The “ONE PIECE: Original Touching Moments” section of the 12th BJIFF Beijing Film Panorama has been announced. The section consists of ONE PIECE trilogy, namely ONE PIECE THE MOVIE EPISODE OF ALABASTA THE PIRATES AND THE PRINCESS OF THE DESERT, ONE PIECE THE MOVIE EPISODE OF CHOPPER+ THE MIRACLE WINTER CHERRY BLOSSOM, and ONE PIECE FILM RED.

ONE PIECE is a Japanese manga series by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 22, 1997. As one of the hit manga series of Shueisha, it set the Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”. All straw hat pirates have strong characters. Luffy, Zoro, Nami and other characters accompany those born in 1980s and 1990s through their teen years. The series inspires and cheers up countless teenagers, and becomes an unrivaled hit. It’s been 22 years since the first theatrical release in 2000, and 15 theatrical films have made up the entire ONE PIECE universe.。

On occasion of the 25th anniversary of its serialization, the BJIFF plans the “ONE PIECE: Original Touching Moments” screening section. Let’s relive touching moments of the ONE PIECE series on sea adventures with ardent Luffy and his friends. 

The “ONE PIECE: Original Touching Moments” section focuses on Vivi, princess of the desert, Chopper, Uta and Red-haired Shanks respectively, all of which bring back to us ardent youth and touching moments. The ONE PIECE THE MOVIE EPISODE OF ALABASTA THE PIRATES AND THE PRINCESS OF THE DESERT is about Alabasta. It depicts how the straw hat pirates help Vivi, princess of the desert, save her kingdom. The mark on friends’ left hand symbolizes eternal friendship. The ONE PIECE THE MOVIE EPISODE OF CHOPPER+ THE MIRACLE WINTER CHERRY BLOSSOM reveals Chopper’s background, and once again depicts the meaning of “friends”. The film also won the 32nd Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Animation Film. The 15th theatrical film ONE PIECE FILM RED is about Red-haired Shanks, a key figure leading Luffy to embark on sea adventures, his daughter Uta and Luffy. It’s known that the film features the theatrical debut of Shanks. 

The three films were never theatrically released in Chinese mainland before. The BJIFF screening event marks the debut of all three films in Chinese mainland. Moreover, the 15th theatrical film ONE PIECE FILM RED celebrates the 25th anniversary of its serialization with Eiichiro Oda as producer. The film is to be released in Japan on August 6, 2022.
