When street art appears in the desert, JR has a sincere encounter with the prisoners in the prison. In 2019, artist JR, who co-produced the documentary Faces Places with French New Wave grandmother Agnès Varda, went to a felon prison in the desert of California, USA, to start his new art project using his black-and-white portrait photography and paste-up art. This place is synonymous with riots and horror – most of the prisoners have been imprisoned for almost a decade, and many will spend the rest of their lives here. JR went to the most dangerous prison in the United States, where he worked with inmates to create a photographic collage that was honestly documented by the camera.

  The Yangtze River
  Highlight
A new sincere, moving production for righteous ardor by Takeuchi Ryo! Japanese documentary filmmaker Takeuchi Ryo put down roots in Nanjing, China, ten years ago. This is the second time he completed the 6,300-kilometer journey ten years later. He set out from Shanghai, and passed through Chongqing, Yunnan and other places before arriving in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, where he went to see the “first drop of water at the source of the Yangtze River”.
This journey is full of anticipation, and also made up for his previous regrets, contrasting the memories ten years ago with the present. He searched for old friends. It turned out that they all remembered their past experience. He made new friends. “It turns out that there are so many places in China that I have not yet visited.” The film leads the audience to experience the fun, to be touched, and to feel the surging emotions!

  Anselm 3D
  Highlight
A perfect colossal screen! It is a chance meeting between two German contemporary art giants! Anselm Kiefer, the “painting poet reared in ruins”, reminds us of oblivion, trauma and silence in history, mythology, nature and life with the most amazing appearance. A work is a frozen story, and the transient emotions are captured by him. Thanks to the 3D language of the film, we return to the scene of Anselm Kiefer’s inspirational burst, follow the camera to pass through the long history, and feel the poetry and shiver of life in an immersive way. Viewing Kiefer and his works through the camera of Wim Wenders is perhaps even more sensational than going to the scene in person!

Aki Kaurismäki built the town’s cinema himself, and Jim Jarmusch made a surprise appearance! If you are fond of Kaurismäki’s dry humor, you can’t miss this most cool journey to pursue a dream with passion. Up-and-coming director Veljko Vidak uses the most natural lens to document the metamorphosis of Cinéma Laika from an abandoned factory to its opening! It is a perfect town cinema that tickles the fancy of cinephiles. Will there be a film festival here? What is the plan of Kaurismäki and his buddies?
