The film is adapted from the wuxia novel Legend of the Swordsmen of the Mountains of Shu by Huanzhulouzhu. It tells the story of the great hero Ding Yan from the Nanhai Sect, who is accidentally wounded by the Blood Devil. To prevent chaos in the martial world, the Ice Queen shatters the Ice Mirror to freeze the Blood Devil, but everyone ends up trapped in ice. Only three individuals manage to escape: Dik Ming-kei, a spy from the Xi Shu military camp; Yat Jan, the disciple of the Kunlun Sect leader; and a guard of the Ice Queen. To save the common people, they decide to venture to the Heaven's Blade Peak in search of Lady Li I-chiand the Dual Swords.
