Keynote speaker:
Nuri Bilge Ceylan, born on January 26, 1959 in Istanbul, spent his childhood in Yenice, Çanakkale—his father’s hometown. After graduating from Bosphorus University, he studied filmmaking for two years at the Mimar Sinan University of Istanbul. He directed the short film Koza in 1995. Later, his feature film Kasaba (1997) and Clouds of May (1999) were shown at the Berlin International Film Festival. His film Distant (2002), Climates (2006), Three Monkeys (2008) and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011) won two Grand Jury Prizes (Grand Prix), Best Director Award (Prix de la mise en scène), Best Actor Award (Prix d’interprétation masculine) and FIPRESCI Prize at The Festival de Cannes. His Winter Sleep (2014) won the supreme Golden Palm (Palme d’or) by the Jury at the 67th edition of The Festival de Cannes. His The Wild Pear Tree was shown at The Festival de Cannes in 2018. He’s currently working on his new film, and completed the shooting in August 2021. While looking for shooting locations of the Climates around Turkey, he regained his passion for photography from high school days. Since then, he’s been fully committed to film and photography.
