On September 28, the 1st China Movie Capital Development Forum, one of the main forums of the 11th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), took place at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center. Leaders, as well as film & television and science & technology celebrities like Yang Shuo, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau; Jiao Hongfen, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Film Group Corporation; Qian Jun, Party Secretary of Beijing Film Academy; Li Yan at the Science and Technology Innovation Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Zhang Jizhong, a renowned director; and Prof. Zhang Shuangnan at the Institute of High Energy Physics, CAS, gathered along the Yanqi Lake together with senior executives of renowned enterprises like Zeiss, Dolby, Vantone and Aranya, to share their ideas and offer advice on the new development path of China Movie Capital. A dialogue between scientific spirit and artistic spirit, scientists and artists, cutting-edge technology and film art kicked off. Leaders from Huairou District, namely Guo Yanhong, Yu Qingfeng, Peng Lixia, Bao Xiaojian, Jiao Baojun, Bing Xiuhai and Gao Yongge, attended the forum. 

 

At the forum, on behalf of 30 film & television culture and sci-tech enterprises, including Beijing Offcn Education & Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing Ruicheng Times Technology Co., Ltd., 10 enterprises signed the agreement on settling in China (Huairou) Film and Television Industry Demonstration Zone. Since the beginning of this year, with the philosophy of "industry-innovation integration" and the goal of building a digital highland for the film & television industry, China Movie Capital has empowered industrial transformation by digitalization and created an ecosystem of cultural technology innovation. At the previous Beijing TV Program Market & Exhibition, China Movie Capital signed an agreement with 30 audio-visual enterprises. Digital industrial parks like Chutianyun Operation Base have successively gone into operation, so as to promote the integrated development of film & television and science and further enhance the appeal of China Movie Capital.

 

Deepening science-film integration is becoming the consensus of more and more filmmakers and film fans. Wang Shu, the initiator of China Science-Film & Television Integration Program and Vice Chairwoman of the Committee of Science-Film & Television Integration, China Science Writers Association, released the China Science-Film & Television Integration Report at the forum. Integrating science with film & television, empowering the film industry by technology and seizing the historical opportunity from the rapid development of film & television technology research in China will promote the application of independent research findings in the film & television industry and lay a solid technical foundation for the prosperity of China's film industry and the building of a film power.

 

Science-film integration is not only powered by technology, but also inseparable from urban renewal and functional development which will lead to the full improvement of the city's capability of cultural technology innovation and level of comprehensive service. Huairou South Station of Beijing-Shenyang High-speed Railway has gone into operation, and the planning and design of the station square (TOD) is being advanced in an orderly manner; the first 1,400 teachers and students at the nine schools and departments of Beijing Film Academy have moved into the new campus; the 200,000-square-meter housing project in Plot A, Block 08 has been open for presale and Offcn Education Science Industry Park will break ground next year; the primary development of Plot B will start; the main structures of Film & Television Talent Community (the rental housing of Beijing Film Academy on collective land) and the housing with joint property rights in Huaisheng Viva La Vida have been topped out; Producer Headquarters Base (Plot 0020) has broken ground; the detailed design of Alibaba Culture & Entertainment Base (Plot 0016/0017) is under way; the investment promotion of the commercial office building (Plot 0023) has started; the design of State Production Base of China Film Group (Phase II) and Bona Film Huairou Base) has been completed.

 

Sci-tech and art experts and scholars, senior executives of enterprises and celebrities demonstrated their tech quality and cultural quality at the forum. Zhang Hong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Sub-group of the China Film Association and Resident Vice President; Jiao Hongfen, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Film Group Corporation and Chairman of China Film Co., Ltd.; Toni Fiedler, General Manager of Consumer Optics at Carl Zeiss Greater China and Head of Fraunhofer IIS China aired their views on hot industrial issues such as film creation, industrial development, scientific support and cinema audio in the keynote speech session.

 

The cast and crew of recent hit TV series-Decisive Victory, including producer Liang Renhong, actress Su Qing and actor Chen Yicheng, reviewed the process of creation and shooting in Huairou at the forum. Since the beginning of this year, over 30 film & television works dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, including films--The Battle at Lake Changjin and Railway Heroes, as well as TV series--Decisive Victory and Faith Makes Great, have been shot or produced at Huairou's State Production Base of China Film Group, Xiantai Film Studio and Tongniu Film and Television Town. Huairou has fully leveraged its function as a film & television shooting and production service center to provide full-process one-stop butler services, and made concrete moves to promote the development of China's film industry, thus becoming a shooting base for revolutionary and Party history films.

 

The high-level dialogue session featured the integration of theories and practices. Scientists of high energy physics are also fond of films. Prof. Zhang Shuangnan, Director of the Particle Astrophysics Division, Institute of High Energy Physics and Director of the Key Laboratory of Particle Astrophysics, CAS, mapped out a new path for the integrated development of science and films from the perspective of a scientific advisor. Besides, with focus on "spending your weekend at the film town" and delivering "an everlasting film festival", Zhang Jiajing, Vice Chairwoman and President of Beijing Vantone Neo Development Group Co., Ltd.; Yao Wang, Vice Chairman of the Western Returned Scholars Association, Senior Consultant of Boan Forum for Asia and Honorary Secretary-General of Education Forum for Asia; Ma Yin, Founder and CEO of Aranya; and Xie Yu, Executive President of MGM (Beijing) International Culture & Tourism Development Co., Ltd. aired their opinions.

 

According to a head of the Cultural Industry Development Promotion Center of Huairou District, with the goal of building a benchmark for domestic top film & television forums, the China Movie Capital Development Forum will keep contributing the ideas of Huairou and China Movie Capital for the high-quality development of the film & television industry.
