As a representative of literary film creators, director Zhang Lu presented his new film at the BJIFF, highlighting the infinite possibilities of Chinese film industry. The Shadowless Tower was shortlisted for the Competition Section of the Berlin International Film Festival with extensive acclaim. Zhang Lu is well known globally, and his films were once shortlisted for the Berlin International Film Festival, the Golden Rooster Awards, and Locarno Film Festival. Korean director Zhang Lu is good at expressing the great emotional tremor from the daily stories, to highlight the humanistic concern with a poetic style. From the shortlist Ciao, we may see the hardworking young filmmakers in China. The film, starring Kara Wai and Hu Xianxu, tells the story between a retired old and sharp-tongued woman and a rebellious and ignorant young boy, both of whom have a healing journey with a car for travelling.

The film is directed by Song Xinqi, Beijing Film Academy with a degree in Directing, who was awarded with short films at several domestic and international film festivals. As soon as his career started, he received great recognition and a lot of support from the domestic industry in the preparation of his feature film debut. Ciao won the Excellent Project Award at the Project Pitches section of the 11th BJIFF and is also the first film launched under the Young Director Training Program initiated by Tencent Pictures.

The film Lost in the Stars is co-directed by two young filmmakers Cui Rui and Liu Xiang, supervised by Chen Sicheng, starring Zhu Yilong, Ni Ni, and Janice Man, and with Du Jiang as the special leading actor. The young director Cui Rui, who once participated in the creation of several award-winning short films at home and abroad, said during the Red Carpet for the Opening Ceremony of the 13th BJIFF that all the casts and crew are delighted of the shortlist for Tiantan Award and looking forward to more feedback from the audience after screening.

Liu Xiang, the other director of the film, has a deep connection with the BJIFF. His feature debut Knock Knock was nominated for the Most Popular Film at the 11th Forward Future Section.
