　　Madam Tung was a young widow who brought up her only daughter and would never transgress the boundary of wifely virtue. She cured the sick villagers and became a private tutor. She was widely respected in her neighborhood. One autumn, a team of officers and men led by Officer Yang stationed in the village to help the villagers harvest. Captain Yang admired the demeanor and courtesy of Madam Tung, and displayed his affections to her time and again. Though she turned him down ruthlessly, she found herself hard to calm down. Later she found her 16-year-old daughter was attracted bythe Captain, while the villagers applied to make her a Chastity Arch out of respect to her. Madam Tung struggled between Captain Yang and the Arch, falling into contradictions.
