Beijing Film Market Project Pitches: Crossing Rainbow Bridge from Texts to Movies
What does a movie look like at the beginning?
Perhaps it is an image coming into the mind by accident.
Such images, fragmented and invisible, slowly grow with self mitosis, and turn into written words, chapters and plots, connecting with each other to constitute a complete story.
A movie comes into being from imagination, and becomes a story in writing. However, a story is just the beginning of a movie, and there is still a long way to go.
The Project Pitches is a bridge leading words to the big screen.

Final-round Roadshow of 13th BJIFF Project Pitches

The Project Pitches of the 14th BJIFF Beijing Film Market called for entries starting from November 20, 2023. A total of 769 stories were submitted to the mailbox of the BJIFF within 100 days. These submissions came early or late, and even on the closing date of February 23, 2024, there were still 161 stories arriving in a hurry.

Just as a story originates from an image and an idea, the Project Pitches section is also slowly evolving from the only sub-section of script projects at the very beginning to four sub-sections, namely script projects, WIP projects, sports projects and HAF-recommended projects, bringing more scripts to this platform. A larger and higher-level platform means we can listen to more stories.

Looking back on the past, the BJIFF has built a rainbow bridge from scripts to movies.
With the conclusion of the first-round selection on the afternoon of March 20, 2024, the judges carefully selected projects from the 769 entries to enter the second-round review.
In the second-round review on April 1 and 2, 2024, the judges with three different identities -- producer, screenwriter and director -- comprehensively and deeply evaluated every project, and selected projects to enter the final-round roadshow.

The final-round roadshow is to be held on April 19 and 20, 2024. Director Stanley Kwan will preside over the Final Jury for Project Pitches, while four emerging filmmakers, including Dong Chengpeng (Da Peng), Liu Haoran, Derek Tsang and Zhang Mo, will serve as jury members, in an effort to support the new generation of filmmakers.

They will together determine the winners of eight awards, namely "Jury Special Recommendation Award", "Best Original Script Award", "Project with Greatest Commercial Potential", "Project with Greatest Development Potential", "Most Investment Value Project Award", "Production Team with Greatest Innovation Award", "Most Marketable Focus Award", and "Beijing International Sports Film Week · Sports Film Project Support Fund".
Every link is like a “dragon gate” for the coloring and transformation of a story. Every time a “dragon gate” is jumped over, words in black and white will draw closer to colorful images of the screen.

The conclusion of the Project Pitches will never be the end of the long way, but a moment for a story to take off. Projects shortlisted for the roadshow and negotiation will be eligible for face-to-face negotiation with senior industry guests and investors, making sure they won't be simply awarded, but truly included into the shooting schedule.
