The Shortlist for BJIFF TALENTS 2022 Announced
Looking back at the history of film, behind every new wave was the emergence of a new force that pushes a certain period, a certain region or a certain type of film to take a big or small step forward. In the opposite direction, screening new forces and tapping new talents have become part and parcel of regional film development.
As a practical training program for discovering and supporting quality newcomers, BJIFF TALENTS has been working toward this goal since its inception last year. After more than three months of careful selection all the way from recruitment to selection to announcement of the finalists, 12 stood out of 333 applicants from home and abroad to finally make it to the second BJIFF TALENTS this year. In this process, they will discuss their scripts with the trainer team of executive producers. The final four winners will be offered an opportunity for the final shooting stage, where they will be led by professional instructors to realize a full process of film creation from theory to practice. Their final films will be premiered at the 12th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF).
The victory of a game between two master-hands is often made by a very fine margin. BJIFF TALENTS trainees are all set apart from the hundreds of applicants after a realistic competition in track records and works. The strength and talent of each trainee in the list of top 12 finalists can not to be underestimated.
We often say that “character should be celebrated”, and this is especially true for this year’s BJIFF TALENTS trainees. Among the 12 finalists, there are not only gifted students graduated from top film schools at home and abroad, who show a bookish appeal specific to those having receiving professional training for what they are doing with confidence; but also up-and-coming filmmakers from other segments or crossover professionals, who have been engaged in the film and TV industry for years and been in a class of their own with their competent practical ability; and even industry professionals who have switched from front-stage to backstage, capturing the dream of film from another angle. This year’s BJIFF TALENTS, which has not even opened yet, has already brought everyone’s expectations to the highest level, be it in professional ability or trending topic.
Going into its second year, BJIFF TALENTS has been working tirelessly to build a stage for young and promising new filmmakers to showcase themselves. Although it may be affected by recurrent waves of the Covid-19 pandemic in the course, the executive producer, mentor and advisor groups have all tried their best to forge ahead, striving to provide a stage for young filmmakers to showcase their ambitions and dreams at this particular time. All of the endeavors aim to breathe new life into China’s film industry and buck it up.
