The Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (HKFILMART) 2023, one of the key platforms and festivals for global exchanges and cooperation in films, is held from March 13 to 16, 2023.

The HKFILMART hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is the largest film & TV trade fair in Asia. The 2023 edition resumed offline organization, and attracted active engagement of worldwide exhibitors.

The China Film Co-production Corporation led the setup of the China Film Pavilion, where outstanding film companies and films from Chinese mainland are displayed. Various forms, including the offline booth, online booth, thematic promotional video and Chinese and English brochures, are adopted to showcase the latest development and accomplishments of China’s films and China’s policies regarding the film industry to global film & TV peers and media present, and pave the way for domestic film institutions and projects to go global.  The Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) took part in the China Film Pavilion, and introduced its major activities and events.

Here is a list of film institutions from the Chinese mainland present:

Offline Pavilion:

This year marks the second appearance of the China Film Pavilion at the HKFILMART, during which 31 premium film institutions and 76 films from Chinese mainland are prominently displayed. The Pavilion features promotional images, texts and videos of the film institutions. Films, WIPs and co-produced films made in the last three years from Chinese mainland, such as The Wandering Earth Ⅱ, Full River Red, Born to Fly, The Belief and Nostalgia, are displayed and publicized at the offline Pavilion.

This year, the China Film Pavilion also set up a trade negotiation space, where outstanding China’s films are matched with counterparts from around the world. In this way, films full of excellent Chinese cultural elements can go global.

The 2023 Spring Festival period marked the full recovery of China’s film market as its gross box office ranked second in history of the period. The heavy industrial sci-fi film—The Wandering Earth Ⅱ was released in multiple countries and regions abroad, earning the highest overseas gross box office in recent years.

With the market on the track of full recovery, the Pavilion attracted widespread attention from exhibitors from home and abroad. In the trade negotiation space, filmmakers from around the world conducted lively face-to-face exchanges with various exhibitors.

Multi-channel Promotion:

The exhibits in the offline Pavilion are also displayed on the online platform of the HKFILMART and China Film International Copyright Trading Platform at the same time.

Besides, the Pavilion offers Chinese and English brochures that contain the profile of the Pavilion, co-production policies, and information about film institutions from Chinese mainland, presents box office results of excellent China’s films in recent years, and replays a promotional video in Chinese and English that introduces impressive performance of the 2023 Spring Festival period.  The Pavilion showcases the image and achievements of China’s films from multiple perspectives and dimensions, further promoting international exchanges and cooperation in films.

The China Film Pavilion at the HKFILMART provides a new platform and opportunities for film institutions and projects from Chinese mainland to enhance understanding and deepen cooperation with filmmakers and media professionals from around the world. In addition to high-quality resources matchmaking and telling China’s story well, it will attract attention of more overseas premium film companies and projects towards China.
