Grand Unveiling of Final Selection Short Films for Production from Project Pitches Training Camp
On January 29, the 16th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) Film Project Pitches Training Camp held its Greenlight Session. Ten short film production teams took the stage one by one, delivering detailed pitches that covered everything from directorial vision and cinematography to art direction, set design, and production budgets. Their presentations highlighted the fresh, diverse creative voices emerging from young filmmakers. Chief Mentor Rao Xiaozhi, Chief Producer and Production Mentor Jojo Hui Yuet-chun, and Acting Mentor Ma Sichun were all present, jointly participating in the project review. The three mentors engaged deeply with each project, asking pointed questions about actor casting, shooting challenges, and script details, while offering insightful, project-specific guidance. Their feedback helped the teams sharpen their creative focus and solidify their development direction.

After thorough discussion and deliberation, the mentors selected three standout short films to advance as the Final Selection Short Films for Production of the 16th BJIFF Project Pitches Training Camp: 0 Decibels, The Princess and Bajie, and The Sound of Sorcery. 0 Decibels draws from the director's own life experiences, weaving "noise" as its narrative thread to explore the tension between personal order and public spaces. The Princess and Bajie was inspired by the director's reflection on childhood memories through an adult lens. The Sound of Sorcery adopts the framework of a horror film to probe the illusions and costs of human struggle.
Meanwhile, a media observation panel - representing outlets such as Sina Film, DomoreDumou, Guduo, Hei Bai Wen Yu, DeepFocus, Douban Podcast, Zhihu Film, Chu Ni Wu Qi, Dian Yin Bu Wu Liao, and Mr. Wu's Photography Notes - conducted on-site reviews and voting. They finally selected the short film Selection Day as the "Media Recommended Project". A particularly encouraging moment came when a DomoreDumou representative announced on the spot that the outlet would provide certain financial support to the Selection Day team - the first time in the BJIFF Project Pitches Training Camp's history that a media organization has directly committed funding to a participating project.

Over the coming two months, the three final selection short films for production will move into intensive pre-production, shooting, and post-production. It is hoped that the trainees will apply what they have learned in the training camp to nourish their creative endeavors, ultimately showcasing it in their works and delivering outstanding cinematic achievements. See you at the premiere in April!
