Everlasting BJIFF | Upcoming Event: Feel the Soul of Cinema, Grasp the Emotional Pulse of Creation
Movie sound may sit behind the screen, but it’s the earliest to stir our feelings. Gentle breaths, sudden silences, and unfolding scores form a second layer of storytelling, and reveal the creator’s most intimate emotions.

On June 27, 4–6 p.m., BJIFF and Dinoo Cafe presented the “Everlasting BJIFF” sound-themed salon, featuring music producer Lu Nan, the “hidden director” behind cinematic sound, to uncover the secrets of film sound design and music creation, and explore how sound reshapes emotion and rhythm to awaken audience resonance.
From studio recordings to movie soundtracks, Lu Nan has used sound as his connection to the world. From crafting emotionally charged soundtracks for musicians like Pu Shu, Guo Ding, and Dou Jingtong, to giving films like A Little Red Flower and Ne Zha auditory life, and even contributing to composing, recording and sound production for the BJIFF NEWHER Section short film Surplus Year after Year, Lu Nan has always believed sound is not background, it’s the soul that drives emotion and lifts the story.
This salon is more than a professional exchange - it’s a tribute to the spirit of cinematic sound. Through the Everlasting BJIFF series, we hope to inspire creators and audiences alike to notice how those “unheard” sounds quietly tell a film’s true story.
