 Erlking   Switzerland, 05'33'', 2015
Georges Schwizgebel (b.1944) is a world-renowned animator. Born in Switzerland in 1944, he has been an animator for half a century. He works in a variety of styles, using traditional painting media such as hand-drawn animation and watercolor to create animated films of abstract, dreamy and circular nature. Schwizgebel's works often explore themes of time, space, and emotion, as well as the fluidity and connectivity between images. His works adopt brilliant colors and rich brushstrokes to construct a subtle imaginative space, blending music and visual art to present impressive animation works. Georges Schwizgebel uses almost no dialogue in his works, and he always likes to combine classical music with dizzying animation. One of his masterpieces, Erlking, was based on Goethe's narrative poem Der Erlkönig and music by Schubert and Liszt.

He won the 32nd Canadian Screen Awards for Best Animated Short Film for Romance (2011). Georges Schwizgebel was awarded the Honorary Cristal, which is presented annually to a pioneering artist with outstanding contribution to the animation industry, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2017. In particular, The Ride to the Abyss (1992) is included in Annecy’s list of the 100 best animation films.
