Dong Lan, a live-in nanny, receives news of her nephew’s death. Fearing that her superstitious employer might see her as a bearer of bad luck and dismiss her, she lies and asks for leave to return to her hometown. During the funeral, Dong Lan’s son secretly eats the candy offered as ritual offerings. A local fortune-teller then warns her that she must not tell a single lie for the next seven days.
