The “Forward Future” is a section for the new talents at the BJIFF. All the first or second feature films are welcomed for the “Forward Future” Section regardless of genre, type, or style. The Forward Future section always pays close attention to new directors from all over the world, discovering and fostering many young filmmakers with the spirit of innovation and unique styles. Here, you can not only appreciate cutting-edge, excellent, and distinct film works, but can also feel what global young filmmakers think and are concerned about. They are full of passion and tension, bringing new generation forces to the world cinema.

This year’s BJIFF received a total of 1,509 entries, and 15 films from 18 countries and regions were finally shortlisted for "Forward Future” section. The 15 new films discover the world from diverse perspectives and communicate with audiences with authentic voices; starting from the “Forward Future” Section, these new talents will take the first step into the film industry, who focus on the future based on the present.

The 14th BJIFF invites Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski to act as the Jury President, and Chinese director Gu Xiaogang, Dutch cinematographer Kees Van Oostrum, Chinese director Yang Lina, and Chinese actress Yang Zishan to act as the Jury members of the "Forward Future" section.

The five world-renowned filmmakers from different countries will decide on seven honors from the 15 shortlisted films, namely the “Most Popular Feature Picture”, “Most Popular Director”, “Most Popular Screenplay”, “Most Popular Actress”, “Most Popular Actor”, “Most Popular Artistic Contribution”, and “Jury Special Mention”. The selection results will be announced at the 14th BJIFF Forward Future Honorary Award Ceremony on April 24, 2024.
